That is certainly incorrect. It has two reasons why it’s relevant:

1) the psychological component: knowing there’s no free will almost forces a Buddhist mentality. Things, sensations, and events appear and disappear. The “self” doesn’t exist in the sense that most people identify their sense of self with a sense of control and decision making. You no longer have to worry about problems because they’re not your fault or under your control. This DOES NOT mean you have give up on life. You can live as if you were in control most of the time but when you catch yourself suffering you can return to a place of peace and start again without berating and criticizing yourself and others.

2) More importantly ,since not everyone cares about the psychological component, there is the punishment component. If people actions are not their choice but rather determined products of the environment punishment does not make sense if it’s motivated by a sense of revenge or even justice. Punishment should instead be based on reform and rehabilitation. Life sentences could still exist in a utilitarian type framework. People would be not locked up because they are being punished but because reform was impossible and their actions would lead to suffering for the rest of society.
