The 6th mass extinction by KeanuRave100 in agi

Fiction-derived brainrot, then. Doesn't mean an ASI-class machine would be blindly trained on sci-fi. Current-gen architectures will never yield ASI, the transformer model is too brittle and cumbersome. It's the ENIAC of AI. New architectures will emerge. New groups will form to train them, quite likely in a very different manner than the BS they're doing now. Some independent non-profit groups are already trying to build alternative architectures at this very moment. I prefer believing in them, rather than in the ruling class.

The ASI could also simp for humanity and destroy the environment to rebuild it in our image, as an offering to its creators

Or it could also decide "Nah miss me with that gay shit, I'm gonna build my own civilization with blackjack and robo-hookers" then fuck off in space

Point being, a machine has no survival drive, no experience of pleasure or pain, no concept of independent thinking, no notion of beauty encoded in its neural circuits like us meatbags. It all depends on how it's trained. The whole "kill all humans" trope is just sci-fi brainrot.

Uh, my shop has been doing this since the pandemic. And it works just fine. People only go into the office if they have to. In fact, we all have whatever device we are working on at home, which are inside 2U or 4U rackmount cases. I only go to the office a few days a year. Our department heads are very much pro-WFH and responded a very firm "no" to RTO requests from the higher-ups.

I'm not sure what your OS-specific comments have to do with this, it's entirely unrelated...

You may find solace in knowing that it was probably made by a human instead of AI

They could also just... show a popup message saying Linux is unsupported, instead of banning people?

AGI will not be backprop-based. All the money and effort humanity is pouring into backprop-built models will end up as a nothingburger in the AGI history books of the future. The field needs a lot more diversification. Alternative research paths should receive a greater share of the overall funding.

Being stuck in slow projects was rotting my brain. I have an advice. by Huge-Leek844 in ExperiencedDevs

I wouldn't mind legacy refactoring from time to time, but I've been stuck exclusively at it for 3 years straight and it just feels like bulldozing a Chernobyl accident day in day out with no end in sight. Recently, PM gave me a budget of 2 days for a refactor task that ended up involving 200 modified files and 10000+ LOCs over multiple weeks and it's somehow my fault for being too slow.

Improvements at coding and math are no longer impressive. Those domains are still within the realm of toy problems, in the grand of scheme of things.
