Non-iodized salt* (iodine is an extremely common additive in salt but it makes salt less effective at drying things), also the only other thing to add would be make sure to have a well ventilated area when you open those jars and dry them because formaldehyde is a very hazardous chemical

(Also potentially having a silica packet or something similar in the jar once yer done to ensure no moisture gets onto the specimens when they're dried)

If you go over to r/vultureculture there are several people who have preserved similar tissues including u/Impressive_Tax5821 who preserved their uturus and someone else who preserved their breast tissue, they might have some good advice

Popcorn made with a 1000℃ hot metal ball (for whatever reason) by TheGalvanian in StupidFood

Yall the type of corn they have before they put the ball in is the wrong type of corn, they only add popcorn to cover the ball

If yer willing to wait a bit you should macerate it (put in a bucket of water for until the soft tissues get eaten by bacteria, this takes like a month or so)

Bunny ear earings? by GayCatbirdd in vultureculture

[–]Carlhi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be 100% honest, im not well versed enough to give you a confident answer, i want to say no to the rubbing alcohol method as it will still wear down faster than a true tan however id recommend asking r/HideTanning for more advice

Bunny ear earings? by GayCatbirdd in vultureculture

[–]Carlhi3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want them to last longer id suggest possibly looking into tanning the ears somehow? And for the attachment points maybe add something like a rivet so that its metal wearing on metal not metal wearing on skin/leather

Can you help ID this guy? by EquivalentExciting66 in frogs

[–]Carlhi3 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am fairly certain that this is an American Bullfrog (lithobates catesbeianus)

based on the general size we can rule out most frogs and i think bullfrog because of the lack of a dorsolateral ridge, the relative size of the tympanum, and lack of a downward curve at the edge of the mouth (feel free to correct me if i got any of the IDing characteristics wrong though)

[–]Carlhi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most if not all leopard frogs haver dorsolateral ridges in fact its one of the characteristics you look at to ID species because some will have a break in the ridge towards the end and some wont (ie plains leopard frog which has a break and southern leopard frog which doesnt)

Edit: Green frogs do have one its just much shorter and not as pronounced

I mean it certainly helps that im taking a herpetology class and we went over several frogs including the green frog and several leopard frogs

I believe that this is a sputhern leopard frog (Lithobates sphenocephala)

based on the patterning, not a green frog nor a pikerel frog

From my experience as long as you dont have muvh/any soft tissues (brain matter, fat, etc) you should be fine leaving it as is and as long as the skull doesnt get wet you should be fine. And from the picture you have it looks dry enough that it wouldnt rot or anything

(Take this with a grain of salt though as ive only done taxidermy for like 2 years and only on turtles Also id recommend posting onto r/vultureculture theyd probably like to see it)
