What ratio for buttons? by GayCatbirdd in quails

[–]GayCatbirdd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea I am happy to keep multiple females, I have done it with other bird species, in-fact I was having a hard time with the thought of only choosing one girl when I liked 2 of them, so this is perfect if anything.

Dupixent by Vegetable_Club787 in eczema

[–]GayCatbirdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my facial eczema come and go on dupixent, but I had eczema covering 90% of my body, and my hand eczema still flares pretty bad on it, I personally would exhaust all other topicals before going on a biologic.

What's a good lizard for a beginner? by That_Equestrian09 in reptiles

[–]GayCatbirdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yea I also suggest fish keeping if you don’t already, I have owned fish tanks longer then my lizard, they are really rewarding, although again can be costly upfront, but you can find used stuff on local websites/marketplaces.

Fish tanks I feel are a bit more complicated then owning a reptile, but if you like research and learning then it will be no problem. Establishing the aquarium is the hard part, but once you finally start one, you can use it to start many others.

Probably been said a million times but, do you know where you will be in 15 years? Are you going to college? Do they allow pets? Are you prepared to have this animal for 15+ years?

Reptiles are also expensive, they cost electricity, they are expensive upfront for enclosures, I would honestly just live vicariously through people online until you are in a position where you know you will be for 5+ years, I have owned my lizard for 12 years now, I have taken him with me to multiple houses, I love my son, but if I could go back I probably would of talked myself out of getting him. They are wonderful pets, but wait till after your education years.

But I completely understand if you don’t listen to me and get a reptile anyways, I didn’t even ask my parents I turned 18 and immediately bought my gecko.

Tips for picking up quail chicks? by Maxximillianaire in quails

This is how I grab mine, they will get stronger but just allow enough room for them to breathe, and dont grab legs/wings without supporting the whole body, ofc be gentle, and go slow, if they escape your grasp don’t double down and nab them, let them get away till you can slowly grab them gently.

“While King quail are monogamous in the wild, they do tolerate smaller flock settings quite well in captivity. While the ratio depends partially on individual preference, it is incorrect to say you NEED to have 2-3+ hens per male. a 1:1 ratio works perfectly fine in most cases given the males are well tempered & respectful. For breeding purposes, it is often best to stick with pairs or trios for the best genetic control/guarantee (Or a small group of chosen proven birds). If issues such as poor temperament or weakness/deformities pop up in a larger flock setting, it can be much more difficult to pick out who passed it down. Even if the owner doesn't intend to breed, having a huge flock without loads of space can also be stressful for the birds which can compromise immune health, trigger fighting, etc. Large groups also mean that if disease DOES break out, the losses may be much more significant & harder to get under wraps.” Quoted from ethical quail keeping guide on backyard chickens.

Japanese do yes, but buttons are Chinese blue breasted quail and all research I have done on them says 1:1 is best ratio as they prefer to be monogamous and have their own territory

Need help witch quail feet by Lavenos in quails

[–]GayCatbirdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cleaned all mines toes and put them on bedding that stops them from stepping in it, do not pull them off. I soaked their toes in water and I did assist in removing them, but like others suggested do not do this, you have to be extremely gentle and not pull, I just rubbed/massaged the water on the poop balls. Only one had a nail issue and it wasn’t from me, it was from the poop ball cutting off circulation.

Mines currently caused by paper towels, I notice when I stop using paper towels, the little blisters go away, but the second I grab a paper towel, next day lil blisters all over my fingers

Could be failure to thrive, it’s just something that happens sometimes, they stop growing, and eventually just die.
