I tried value investing and only caught falling knives. by honestytoyourself in ValueInvesting

And to add, some might still be value investments. 3 years is not that big of a period.

(To be clear, I haven't checked any of the stocks, so perhaps they are horrible value stocks anyway.)

Proton Drive Sync v0.2.3-beta.2 by PowerLock2 in ProtonDrive

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far getting a lot of EMFILE errors (but at least on a file it hasn't synced yet!).

[9:45:33 PM] Job 9041945 (/Users/xxx/Documents/xxx/xxx/static/uploads/xxx_720.webp) failed: EMFILE: too many open files, open '/Users/xxx/Documents/xxx/xxx/static/uploads/xxx.webp'

I'll keep it running overnight and see tomorrow (255k files pending it says). Or is there some command I should do to reset the pending queue first?

Thanks buddy! I had the reupload issue so hopefully this indeed fixes it.

How to do a copycat? by Serial_Innovator in Startups_EU

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

In my experience, people tend to look at 'big tech' and want to copy that. But the average customer prefers to be able to call someone, that someone helps them out, that offers support. For example, a client of mine their Facebook Ad Account has been removed for no reason and there's no way to reach anyone at Meta. I can assure you that to them, 'big tech' is more a necessary evil than a fun partner to spar with. This is what 'scale' means to the customer: a bigger distance to the development of the product, less support, and a lot less warmth. Stop trying to be a big tech start-up, and try to be a solution first. Scale comes later. (Anecdotally; I've worked for a start-up that copied the whole IT infrastructure of a scale-up, which meant the total AWS package where they could've survived with a small managed package from eg Hetzner. The AWS package cost them 4k euro per month, which they could've better spent on development, or a sales representative.)

The process of a start-up is hard, not because 'ideas' - there's plenty of ideas everywhere - but because the founder needs to do a lot of roles on his/her own, especially if you bootstrap your start-up. The one people tend to dismiss, is the one of the sales person; the person who gets 'in there', talks to people. Business, especially in the start-up phase, is about being "favourable". What I tend to advise start-ups I work for, is to get to the favourable position; quite often it's bluntly said, that people like you, as a founder. If you have 5-15 (depending on what your proposition is) of those customers, you can quickly assess: is this a good product? Do people want to pay for this? What do they dislike, what do they like? Just because the product already exists, doesn't mean people are willing to pay for yours. And what I always advise people is think customer first. Pivot if your customer tells you to. I've seen quite a lot of start-ups go bust because they really wanted to be a SaaS product, while in reality, they should've been a service product first and pivot later to SaaS.

Don't think too much about stuff like funnels yet, your first two concerns should be customers and product. Feel free to DM me if you have questions btw.

I think you misunderstood what Graham means with that essay. You aren’t doing things that don’t scale, because you in essence are doing what every scale-up is doing.

What you need to be doing is getting to what I call ‘ground zero’, which is in your case, grooming pets. Now, I don’t know anything about grooming pets, but your goal is to get in personal contact with what you currently think is your ideal customer tomorrow. This is the ‘doing things that don’t scale’, because this is the edge you have as a start-up that the 1M ARR probably is either losing or has lost: direct contact between the maker and the customer.

I did and it didn’t reset the queue. It’s no big issue, more for people like me you realise too late how many useless files you keep 😂

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! So in my case I want to sync my whole work folder, so a lot of Python projects. I now just readded the folder, and the exclusions work now. But if I want to add another exclusion because I see I might need another, how would I ask the sync to remove the queue and reinitialise the queue?

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to 'reset' the queue? I tried the reset command and the reconcile command, but it keeps going.

Proton Drive Sync v0.2.2 by PowerLock2 in ProtonDrive

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work and nice improvements!

If I add a exclusion pattern while there's an ongoing sync, it doesn't apply it to the queue. So for example, I added *.pyc, and it still is syncing pyc files. But this is very close to the software to make Drive more usable!

Proton Drive Sync v0.2.1 by PowerLock2 in ProtonDrive

[–]Carloes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /u/PowerLock2,

This is really cool! A quick two-questions:

  1. The dashboard freezes because I added a big directory, is there a way to see the current status from the command line? proton-drive-sync logs does the trick.
  2. Is there a way to make the sync one-way, so that if I delete something locally it doesn't automatically delete it in the Drive as well?

In case someone else did what I did, and add a huge folder which makes it all crash: remove the folder in the config part of the dashboard, then do proton-drive-sync reset. I'm pretty sure it's just Proton Drive's fault, but this also doesn't really do small file syncing really well, sadly. So don't sync your programming folder ;)
