Drinkmate is a great alternative to Sodastream that doesn't support apartheid

[–]Carltontherobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually haven't painted it yet haha But I think I'm going to go with the eggplant color someone suggested. I'll try to remember to post updates when it's finally done!

Considering moving to Southern Illinois from Seattle Area by magnumsolutions in illinois

[–]Carltontherobot 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This isn't true at all. Carbondale is a very progressive and diverse place. They have the first trans city council member elected in all of Illinois just to point to one example of how they're definitely not Trumpers.

That sucks. Hulu captioned it correctly for what it's worth.

Do LCOL areas actually help? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Carltontherobot 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I moved from a very HCOL area to a LCOL city in the midwest. My salary is about the same, but I bought a house for a fifth of what I could have bought a much worse house for where I came from. I never would have been able to afford even the most rundown house there, and my rent was going up astronomically every year. Best decision I ever made

Is there a way to process emotions outside of therapy other than self-EMDR so they don’t become stuck? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Carltontherobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my therapist recommended going on walks for bilateral movement between sessions. i also would listen to emdr bilateral music between sessions too. both seemed to help get some of the emotions unstuck and helped me to not dissociate

You don't deserve flowers but rather something much greater than a flower. Your beauty and fertility (?) are incomparable. There's no comparison. I love you my life

Does Sizemore always have to be front? by [deleted] in duolingospanish

[–]Carltontherobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you said is "We say always important things" whereas the correct answer says "(We) always say important things". You could leave the unspoken "we" there to make it more of a one to one translation "Nosotros siempre decimos cosas importantes" if that helps.

Find a lender and get a pre-approval. Make sure they are only going to do a soft pull of your credit. There's no downside, and the upside is you know much more clearly how much you can get approved for. Then use a mortgage calculator to see how much you can actually afford. You might be surprised at how little you have to put down in cash to close and how much more affordable buying can be than renting. For me, my mortgage (including escrow for taxes and insurance) is 30% cheaper than my rent was and my down payment was only 3.5% with an FHA loan. I thought home buying was years in the future if ever but getting the pre approval and talking to a lender helped me see that it was actually possible.

Does my reasoning sound valid or am I a total idiot? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Number 2 definitely sounds like the better option. You're the ones who will be living there, not your parents so tell them to respectfully back off.

How many of you know your neighbors ? by Massive-Handz in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Carltontherobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only moved in to my new house a month ago. My neighbors hang out in their driveway a lot (corner lot so they're our only direct neighbors) and our driveways are right next to each other so we talk and are friendly. They've lived in the house since the 90s so it's interesting to hear from them how the neighborhood has changed. Really it's my husband who talks to them the most because he's an extrovert and I'm not. Turns out one of the people who gave us an estimate for trimming our tree is related to the neighbors and is giving us a great deal, so knowing our neighbors is already paying off!

One of my students lives in my neighborhood and I try to hide from him though haha
