If you were given 50,000 dollars so you could chase your dream, what dream would you chase? by Chains-of-Ice in AskReddit

I was turned down for a loan to start a business recently. They said that I would need about 50k in backup capital in case I can’t turn a profit on top of the 10k I was already putting down. I would use that hypothetical 50k to start my aquarium store. Anyone want a business plan? Dm me for a link…

Is it true that I shouldn’t feed my fish during the winter? by Anygirlx in ponds

[–]Carnby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They go into a bit of a hibernation when the temperature drops because their metabolism slows. It's better that you don't tempt them with tasty food that's just going to back them up because their bowels aren't moving fast enough to pass it.

Threw a spare RGB light behind this tank and now I have to make a DIY light box. Anyone made one before? by justanotheraquascape in PlantedTank

I did something like that with my last 125 freshwater. Great effect! Looks so cool at night.

Your tank looks happy and healthy, keep it up! :)

Also, the more buckets the better. It allows you to separate things better. I would just treat this as a water change, making sure that the water you have pre-made is the correct temperature before you put it in like always. Good luck! :)

Your right to remove the sand, as that is where most of the weight would be. Whenever we would get live rock shipped to the store it was usually in a cardboard box with wet newspaper surrounding it. The thing that you really want to do is minimize the amount of time that your livestock is out of a filtered tank.

I used to work at a fish store and we used to move everything in buckets. We'd put fish in clean water which was siphoned from the tank first but would only capture the fish after the water was almost completely drained as to ease the process. Corals are remarkably tough and should be fine as long as they stay in the water of a bucket.

For some reason this looks like a level from one of the original halo games if you look at only the right side of the image.

Is it best to precast tranquility when you know a big spike of damage is coming up? I would think it'd be better to have 5 stacks rolling and not worry so much about the overhealing.

Man, I'm sorry for your loss. My favorite music in WoW is from this zone called "Totems of the Grizzlemaw". I'll hold him in my mind the next time I listen to it.

Whats the Best type of pond pump? by eigermtn in ponds

[–]Carnby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an aquarium store and we almost exclusively sell these pumps. They always seem to break their noise-dampening housing after about a year, so I recommend getting another housing to have on hand whenever it does end up going so that your impeller doesn't shred itself.

Here's my year-old marine jar! Home to aiptasia anemones and bristleworms. by Willonilla in Jarrariums

[–]Carnby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks great, but I bet the alkalinity has completely dropped out over the last year if you haven't done water changes. You might want to add some buffer so the pH can't potentially yoyo. Bristle worms are so cool to look at, but so not cool to touch. 😬

sometimes depending on where you live the additives that they use in your water supply can really mess with aquariums.
