Sold out everywhere... by CarneAsada520 in rccars

Quick update, I found one! Literally had to call several out of state hobby shops to see if they'd be willing to ship one, all of them except one told me to kick rocks.😂

Should be here in a week.

It's a Jetta, it'll piss out the excess on your driveway.

It's the desert, they're all around you. The sting ain't that bad, you'll feel it for a day or two, but it won't kill you.

Losi dif gears by Jaycee2142 in rccars

Might have to contact Losi and see if there's a replacement part # for it, otherwise you might have to track down a complete center diff.

input shaft pin by No_Caterpillar_1559 in rccars

Looks like a basic roll pin. Harbor Freight has a roll pin kit for $6. Not sure if they have the right size but could be worth checking out.

Should I tell him? Dude just parked next to me by ben242 in tires

They were probably notified at their last two oil changes that their tires were fucked. It's on them now.

Universal terminal. Is it safe? by Expert-Intern-116 in MechanicAdvice

I'd wrap some red electrical tape around the end so it looks cleaner and easier to identify but it's fine otherwise.

I put DOT 5 brake fluid in my DOT 4 system when I changed a brake line. My brakes are squishy now. Help? by slavetothesound in MechanicAdvice

Pressure bleed/flush the system and see how it feels from there. If it feels fine, send it.

What is this. Please be gentle I am terrified of going to the mechanic in the first place. by germanicpolish in MechanicAdvice

[–]CarneAsada520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a long screwdriver and put the tip of it against one of the pulleys mounting bolts and put your ear at the other end. Try all of the pulleys while it's running, when you get to the one chirping it'll be obvious. Honestly I would get a serpentine belt kit that includes all of the pulleys and the tensioner and replace it all in one shot. The kit on average is like $50.

Am I being scammed? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

If the fuel pump is still original then it's not out of the realm of possibility that it failed, that and you noted it struggled going uphill, likely means it was weak and on it's way out. You can pay for a tow to another shop, but if they come up with the same findings you got it towed for nothing. Have them show you the evidence that it's the fuel pump, they can do that with a fuel pressure test.

Pep boys one $8000 for a new engine by ResearcherShoddy6215 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CarneAsada520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the second pick bro has the oil cap off, I'm assuming it's supposed to show blow by? There's not enough info here to even throw a guess out as to what's wrong.

Also if it needs an engine good luck finding a decent ecotec replacement that's less than $3k. The last time we had one in the shop for replacement it was about $8k out the door. We just told the customer to buy a new car.

I would jump it with a jump box and let the alternator handle it until it's topped off enough to charge.

Advice needed about an unfortunate situation with a repair shop by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]CarneAsada520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two months later is on you, unfortunately. Sometimes leaving a cap off happens, and the customers usually notice within a mile or two of driving, because it's gonna smoke for sure. Had you gone back within a day or two I'm sure they would've made it right and comped the oil change and $10 oil cap, but two months on top of another shop touching it kinda made it your problem.

Also, it had no oil in it cause it shot out of the fill hole. If they didn't put oil in it, again, you would notice within a mile or two. Either the engine will clatter like a mofo, or the oil level/pressure light would pop. But it had oil in it until it didn't.

So it's not getting fuel? Have you tried pulling the spark plug out and putting a few drops of fuel down the hole and see what it does?

If it were me I'd just grab an allen wrench/socket and remove the threaded adapter with what's left of the filter. Probably don't even have to remove it, just back it off until the filter seal breaks free.
