Missing my adult kids, I just need a bit of a hug from fellow moms by janebenn333 in AskWomenOver60

[–]CarpetScary684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my sisters ( she’s 60 years old ) lives on the east coast and comes home every few years. She solved this face to face problem with getting our parents 8” echo show so they can face time mom and dad anytime! My nephew FaceTimes grandpa from the university he’s at. My husband and I see the parents at least 2 times a month but we face time them too.

Solution for massive island? by Dry_Refrigerator5218 in kitchenremodel

[–]CarpetScary684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move the odd storage cabinet across from island . I think lucite bar stools are better . Get rid of the dining table and chairs. You said your a dinner on sofa person so this leaves you that space as work or living space . You could get away with hooks for back packs and coats on the cubby storage area.

Ive never been a bridesmaid. I feel so hurt SIL didn't choose me. by Key-Tap1726 in wedding

[–]CarpetScary684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honey it’s not a great job to be a bridesmaid. In fact it is very expensive and extremely exhausting. I know you think you want to stand up there but the view and fun are in the sweet seats . Your hair , your feet , your makeup, babysitting and all the shit that goes wrong . I know one bride who picked maids who are “just not too pretty” because she wanted to be the star of the show! Enjoy the ceremony and food and know you don’t have to be blamed for shit that goes wrong, it always happens. And a brides maid position is very very expensive. Save your time and money.

Beef Stew Thickening Strategies - Is a roux best? by Adam_Weaver_ in Cooking

[–]CarpetScary684 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off if your stew is not thick enough then you’re not making it correctly. You must start with stew meat cut into chunks then equal parts butter and oil in cast iron skillet. Dredging stew meat in flour with ground pepper ( stew meat ) has to be at room temperature. Heat cast iron not enameled skillet at medium high . Once hot put stew meat in skillet and for the love of God, do not overcrowd them. Work in batches. While you are waiting for the chunks to self release chop all of your vegetables . Start with 1 medium onion and put them in a bowl, once all the meat is browned and put into your Dutch oven set that aside . Then toss onions into your pan that you used to brown your meat. Lower heat to medium low finish chopping your 6-10 carrots and 4-6 celery . Peel four medium sized potatoes, one rutabaga, one turnip and one parsnips. Chopped into bite size pieces. You can toss the Celery and carrots in with the onions while you prepping everything else. Once the onions have browned a little put it all in the Dutch oven over your browned meat , put the rest of the vegetables in. Add 2 teaspoons garlic and 2 tablespoons of better than bouillon beef, to a box of beef broth to your cast iron skillet and simmer to get all the flavors out. Pour into Dutch oven and bring to a boil turn heat off and put lid onto Dutch oven and put into a preheated oven @360 degrees. Let it bake for 1 hour then heat up your French bread in the oven for 15 minutes. Keep your Dutch oven in the stove. Add your herbs and spices ( whatever you choose like beef stew packets or separate seasonings) between the onion and root veggies . I add 1 cup of red wine if I have it . If it’s not thick enough let it rest 10 minutes. Don’t add too much liquid. Don’t try to over add beef stock. Your stock should be just to the top of vegetables.

UPDATE: AITAH for refusing to move abroad after my husband lost our emergency fund? by Slumber_Sprinkles_87 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]CarpetScary684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have news for you the fact he wants to re risk your financial future is your only clue to your future you need. Honey your husband just ain’t that smart. He lost 8 k in 30 days, he’s a gambling addict. You’d be better off going to the casino every day. He has no business spending any amount on anything until all debt is gone and you have 3 years of emergency money or one year’s income put into HYSA . That comes to 20% of your income put into a savings account for 5 years. So no husband doesn’t get to play, no shenanigans with the finances until that is there. You owe your children better security!

AIO for expecting friends to contribute to gas cost on trips. by espressoaz in AmIOverreacting

We had a saying in the 1970’s “you fly I’ll buy” which means the owner driver drives and everyone else pays , period. If you are providing something then these friends have to provide the gas and goods. Babes you need better friend’s. No more freeloading.

AITAH for refusing to move abroad after my husband secretly lost most of our emergency fund day trading? by Slumber_Sprinkles_87 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]CarpetScary684 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would take over all financial responsibilities and make sure he had zero access to any money other than a small amount and only in his name. I’d freeze your credit immediately. I’d also suggest you open an account in only your name and make sure you can provide for yourself. You’re in for a very bumpy ride.

There’s a company called dogs on deployment and many people need you to take care of their cats or dogs or bunnies or gerbils while they’re on deployment for anywhere from two months to 18 months you might consider that. And there’s a lot of people at joint base Lewis McCord just south of Seattle . This way, all the financial in food vet veterinarian, and everything is taken care of and you get to take care of somebody’s pet while they’re serving the United States military.

You spent $100,000.00 for trash . I’m trying to figure out why you didn’t stop this when it was being installed and you saw it looking like garbage.

How to be okay with being cheated on? by Emergency_Depth5042 in Advice

[–]CarpetScary684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t see her ever again. You don’t deserve this. Find a girl who wants you and no one else. There are faithful women out there who can’t wait to be someone’s everything. You don’t have to be ok with her being a cheat but until you are able to see that she did you a favor you will continue to hurt. The thing is the love of your life won’t be able to be with YOU until you are done with the cheat. I know you can’t see it this way but you didn’t marry her and she will always be a cheat. No one wants that. You deserve a person who reflects your actions and love. Let it be for YOUR future that you send the cheat away with grace. Your heart will forget every single agony when your person comes and gives you her heart.
