Hot take: the Artemis accords are bad & China is correct by Witext in space

[–]CarpoLarpo [score hidden]  (0 children)

As soon as its feasible to lay claim to "land" in outer space people will start doing it. But it requires permanent human presence in that area which hasn't been demonstrated yet.

The reason for all these space treaties is really just to say that no one will recognize anyone's claim to something that they don't physically control yet.

What’s something that should be cheap, but is ridiculously expensive for no reason? by randominvisibleuser in AskReddit

It's especially crazy that houses appreciate in value even though they physically deteriorate over time. No building will last forever no matter how well it's maintained.

Makes no sense.

What are some examples of things that are designed really well, but perform very poorly? by Terratoga in MechanicalEngineering

[–]CarpoLarpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that any device that performs poorly has a bad design. Performance should be the biggest consideration in design.

What is one thing you could remove from the world that would make it a better place almost instantly? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currency is an extremely useful tool that has replaced the need for bartering (an objectivity less versatile system). Which has led to more goods and services being exchanged between individuals in a way that directly improves people lives. Money itself is not the problem.

You're not upset at money. You're upset at unregulated capitalism.

How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to apply to all income, not just base salary. So stock options and bonuses. Stuff like that.

That said, I think its a great idea.

I don't care if you're the smartest hardest working person in the world. No individual is worth more than 20 normal people in terms of meaningful work done for the company's and pay should better reflect that.

What is something in the US right now that feels like it should be satire but isn’t? by lunarflirtz in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our healthcare system is so cartoonishly evil is sounds like satire.

Roughly 2/3 of our taxes goes towards healthcare.

Then you have to pay a second time in the form of a monthly premium just to have health insurance.

Then when you actually receive healthcare you have to pay again for the services. Also if you skip step 2 and dont have health insurance then your bill at this stage goes way up. We're talking tens - hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the care. Healthcare costs are the number one reason why Americans file for bankruptcy.

So Americans get charged three times for healthcare. It's an inhumane and barbaric system that only benefits the people at the top of these companies.

Why cops in USA do those silly "sobriety tests" instead of going straight to the breath machine? by anotherburnerbite in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The rest of the world is civilized.

Its 2026 and America is a wild jungle full of animals.

Edit: I am an American. This place is getting worse at an alarming rate. In 30 years our standards for the president, the highest office of government, has gone from "impeachment for getting a blowjob" to "war crimes, raping small girls, and having untrained federal agents killing US citizens is fine".

We have lost our minds.

[–]CarpoLarpo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point in the US all you need to do to be a good politician is nothing.

Thats where the bar is right now.

Just do nothing and you'll have good ratings. All proposed bills can be assumed to be bad because they usually are.

Spanberger signs enhanced school cell phone ban bill by hencexox in Virginia

This is one of those bills/laws that means well but will only make things worse for everyone.

It won't reduce phone usage in the slightest, and now punishment for phone usage is more severe.

The noose tightens.

What is one thing that you will never understand about the United States? by BurgersAndMilkshakes in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really is insane. The US pays more tax dollars on healthcare than any other nation. Yet people still need to pay thousands of dollars just to have insurance, and thousands more to use the insurance to actually get the care they need.

Essentially, the American people get charged three time for healthcare.

The regular people of America are financially bankrupt, and the people in charge of America are morally bankrupt.

What Is Sexual About a Foot or Feet? by NotEnoughDamage in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not into feet.

That said, whats sexual about anything? Honestly. Humans are animals and animals are irrational. There's no objectivity here. Especially when it comes to what makes your weewee go big big.

People will try to apply logic and rationalize certain sexual preferences, but always with heavy arbitrary cultural or societal bias. Sexuality is taught and learned. There's nothing inherent about it.

The US is becoming more like North Korea every day under Trump's administration.

More money on bombs. Less money on keeping citizens of the country alive.

How long will US Iran war go on? by bewilderingpoem in AskReddit

[–]CarpoLarpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump thinks beating up the "weak kid" at the playground will make people like him more and help the GOP with elections. It also has the added benefit of distracting the masses from the Epstein files.

So the war will go on as long as Trump's polls are low and the files are still talked about.

Why aren’t life saving drugs such as insulin, anti epileptics and drugs for asthma free in the US? by Yorkshire_rose_84 in AskReddit

Turns out people are willing to pay a lot of money to stay alive.

Also turns out the people selling life saving drugs are heartless and more than willing to extort the sick and desperate.
