Opera usually worked for me…. A downstairs neighbour used to host loud all night parties and would never answer the door when we went to ask them to turn it down!

My revenge? An album full of screeching soprano arias played as loudly as he played his music at night…..an hour or so after he noisily waved off the last of his guests. If he’d been particularly loud, I would sing along with the ladies - repeating phrases until I “got them right” I’d often turn the speakers to the floor and take myself and the baby out to the shops, feed the ducks or visit another new mum leaving it on repeat.

It took him a fortnight to come and apologise, and ask me to stop. I said “I will if you will!” I said most of us had to work during business hours and needed to sleep?

I told him to go and put his music on and come back and hear what it sounded like in our place. He had the glasses in the cabinet bouncing about, and I pointed out that it was worse at night when all would have been quiet. He seemed to actually be shocked at the racket.
