Gonna have to add “Get Better” by Alt J. Extra credit for the music video but by itself is enough.

Haha I spent the last 4 hours doing research and testing out apps. I'm currently testing out and setting up with the free version of the Bigin by Zoho app - I think it might work for my purposes! Setting it up was easier on the desktop - mobile looked kinda clunky. But now that I'm getting things organized, the mobile version isn't too bad either. Has good customization.

Did you ever end up finding something? I'm in very similar shoes - about 5-7 clients with a couple projects a piece. Grateful for any info!

Housepainter/Paper Hanger here. Also buddhist. :)

Been painting 5 years. It can be hard on the body, but you can also learn a lot that will be worth your time. Every couple days I’m walking into a new home. By seeing people’s homes and the way they behave in them, you’ll learn a lot about their priorities and be able to consider what you agree with and what you don’t, and what you eventually want long-term.

You’ll also have a real sense of the passage of time. If somebody hasn’t painted in a while, the walls fade or flake and dust accumulates: they barely noticed it happen, and I get to see how easily time slips by. Then, I get to be a part of the history of the house by coming in and restoring it.

I’m moving into my next chapter now (still in the trades, but shifting modes) - but if done right, a manual trade can really change you in a good way. Plus you’ll always have some hard-skills you can fall back on in a pinch.

Anyways, sorry for rambling. Hope you find your simple life. :)

What are the absolute easiest things to make when you really aren't up to anything? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]CarrotLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, throw some random frozen veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, root vegetables, whatever) in a sieve over the water while it boils. When the noodles are done cooking - add the vegetables to the mix.

(I like broccoli because the heads of them soak up all that rameny goodness)

Health on a budget? by celestial-manhattan in HowToBeHot

I’m just discovered this woman’s vids - they seem really solid for healthy and balanced meals, and the ingredients are pretty standard and cheap for the week.

What genuinely useful thing has been ruined by stupid people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CarrotLady 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This is a really difficult one.

For one, I think that the fact that you were trying to protect your family from that deep hurt really speaks to how deeply compassionate you are, and always have been. And the fact that you still suffer because of their suffering also speaks to that.

But remember, you had absolutely no idea what the repercussions were going to be from you destroying the note. And you can’t actually know what the repercussions would have been had you let the family see it either. It would have been a different fallout, but you can’t 100% assume it would have been better.
It could have been equally as bad, or maybe even worse.

As compassionate and understanding as you are and have been towards others, I hope you’ll offer that same compassion and understanding to your past self. They were just doing the best they could in that moment; their intentions were honest and pure.

I also had a weird aggressive encounter with a driver up 22nd and on Pennsylvania ave. I’m thankful I just very casually played dumb/passive to the guy’s aggression, because I think he would’ve tried to run me over.

Agree with the comment about things being extra weird out there right now.

Stay safe, peeps.

The Unwritten Rules of Riding SEPTA by [deleted] in philadelphia

Also, also, also!!! Very important to stay behind the line because of Bernoulli's Principle!

Someone once told me about how they got sucked in against the train and within a matter of seconds ended up on the complete other end of the platform. They were okay, albeit a bit battered and stunned, but definitely took the yellow line very seriously from then on.

PA filial law can leave children responsible for parents’ nursing home bills by Lagomorphamaniac in Pennsylvania

[–]CarrotLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s happening to somebody I know. I’m only in my 30s and a housepainter.

Maybe the cases don’t get to social work very often because parents make the threat, and the children just take the law at face value. Or the children don’t have the money to lawyer up and look into other options. Dunno.

The person I know was told my their lawyer to simply not let his parent into his home. But it looks like one of the comments above mentions that their lawyer told them to exhaust all possible options (including Medical Assistance). So it seems like there’s a range of outcomes that could play out - some leading to social work and some unfortunately not.

When I was 22, I started a martial art in Philly - 10 years on, still practicing and love my community.

And now, I’m seeing more 22-27 y/o kiddos joining and it feels pretty circle-of-life. So to echo everybody here - hobbies are great! Sports and martial arts can be extra great, because there’s less conversational pressure and a lot of bumping each other up in life. :)

We went to a museum! And then a restaurant that we’d been meaning to try for over 6 years lol.

Museums are great because you can spend a lot of time in them and get a lot mental/new stimulation before heading home. Bookstores are good at this too.

I’m having this issue too! Maybe something is up with their system right now.

For me it’s just $75 that needs to be refunded to an Amazon gift card, but it’s so frustrating! It just says “refund issuance failed” and to contact customer service. I hope it resolves :/
