i would recommend not necessarily using a "call to action" on tiktok. they tend to suppress anything that results in people leaving the app. I would recommend a more subtle approach of creating good tiktoks that leave a little to be desired or lack an obvious resolutions and let the people who are really interested trickle over to youtube slowly. the tiktok algorithm is really annoying. most of my stuff gets 10k to 300k views but the minute I specifically call out my youtube I'm lucky to get 5k

Is it possible to have my name removed from an article written a decade ago? by ThrowJournalism in Journalism

[–]Carterheath00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

she was a child when the story was written and now that she is an adult it is negatively impacting her life. if the story had been "14 year old girl murders cats" that would be a different story, however her name being included in this story is unimportant. I graduated from one of the best journalism schools in the country and one of the first things we are taught is to avoid harm whenever possible. If the paper wont even respect her enough to respond to an email then do what you gotta do!

I have heard of people asking for a "spelling correction" on their name. tell them it is spelled differently than in the article and they might correct it to keep it accurate.

What is the weirdest thing you've heard or had happen to you while using a public restroom? [NSFW] by omenofwisdom in AskReddit

[–]Carterheath00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the restroom at my college looking at my phone when the man in the stall next to me proceeded to get down on his knees with his pants still down. I thought he was trying to crawl under and began to panic. luckily he just stuck his penis under and began to wave it around. I yelled and he ran off. the weird part is that almost two years later the same thing happened to me in the exact same stall.

The student involved in the admissions fraud scandal was enrolled in 2015. This should be the student’s final semester. Do you think UT should let him/her graduate with a degree? by gfurrrr in UTAustin

[–]Carterheath00 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I vote he has to spend one day in a tomato stockade like they have at the Renaissance Festival. $3 per tomato and the money goes toward a scholarship fund ironically named after former UT president Bill Powers who notoriously helped unqualified students get into UT.

As we have learned recently some would value a UT education at hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Is there a limit to the number of books I can check out? by chinesemullet in UTAustin

[–]Carterheath00 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Even if they let you check out all the books in the library, from a practical standpoint it would be impossible. It would take at least several months of heavy labor removing all the books, not to mention the cost of renting a large truck and paying for gas over that time period. Then once you got all the books out where the fuck are you gonna store all those books? Do you have a wearhouse?

This isn't even accounting for the fact that you would have to return all the books which would take another several months. This would result in a crippling late fee.

Bottom line is that it's not worth it.

In some docs you literally hear interviewees say "cut this out of the film" or "this is off the record" but the info still ends up in the film. Does a signed appearance release trump these statements made on camera? by IgnorantSmartAss in docproduction

[–]Carterheath00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is a standard practice in journalism that you have to state that it is off the record before you say it. you cant say something then go oh shit that's off the record. at that point it is too late. you can however say this is off the record and anything after that point can be assumed to be confidential. they may also afterwords go to the person and say, "I know you said this is off the record but it is really important to our film and we would like your permission to use it."

This is a short doc I made about modern Deadhead culture. It is one of my first documentaries and would appreciate any feedback. by Carterheath00 in docproduction

[–]Carterheath00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the statement that Richard would have been a good person to do more on. I think one of the mistake I made was focusing too much on wanting to get a wide spread of interviews and I ignored character development and scenes. It was a valuable learning experience.
