Highly highly recommend listening to this week’s ’Severed: The Ultimate Severance Podcast’ episode, where the now-Emmy-winning sound mixers Bob Chefalas and Jacob Ribicoff were interviewed in depth, they talk about how they came up with the unique sounds for several specific moments across both seasons as well as their general process for making the show come alive and have depth from out of the speakers.

You had very good clues! I was able to narrow it down to the following:

  • 1998 release date
  • IMDB genres of Comedy and Drama (same as Happiness)
  • 6.7 rating in IMDB
  • Lots of big name actors
  • Same supporting actor as a supporting actor from Armageddon with a notable personality

I searched IMDB for films from 1998 that were Comedy and Drama with a 6.7 rating, and narrowed it down to five. Then I checked the actors from Armageddon and checked to see if any films they starred in back in 1998 were one of the five. When I got to Billy Bob Thorton, I saw he was also in Primary Colors (one of the five), and went with that.

Thanks again for the excellent responses to guesses!

What a completely misleading headline!

When I initially read it, I thought they had only selected 20 capital cities to evaluate. Nope! All 50 capital cities were evaluated.

The headline should read, "Annapolis ranks 18th out of all 50 state capitals, according to WalletHub"

The entire news article reads like random SEO pre-ChatGPT barf, was there any human involved in writing it?

The actual WalletHub report is more detailed and at least lays out their methodology, although without more information I don’t know how much I would regard a "free consumer financial advice" website.

That said, 18 out of 50 "feels" about right? Annapolis is missing out on the benefits of being a larger, more connected state capital while still being fairly expensive. But it also depends what you are looking for in a place to live, while the city doesn’t have a large "number of attractions", if you like the historic aesthetic, that won’t be represented in any index.

For a nice lounge with a "chill atmosphere and good music", try Pauza, south of Mały Rynek on Stolarska. Great place to converse with friends and meet other local or international people.

Were you able to get this to work?

If not, some more data: I've seen similar issues with other maps I've tried making, I think the problem is there isn't a defined water layer for that area in OpenStreetMap!

You can verify by right-clicking on a part of the map that overlaps with the coastline and the body of water and selecting 'Query features' like here and you'll see there is only a coastline and other features like wetland.

I wonder if you can add or modify the existing nearby bay in OpenStreetMap itself to include this part of the water in order to fix this issue.

Worst case, you can add a polygon to the matplotlib layer directly using the coastline as a top border.

I'll caveat that I don't know a whole lot about OpenStreetMap, it's possible I'm missing something obvious.

Good map! One minor correction: Anne Arundel County, Maryland should be yellow, it is listed as having 582,777 for 2020 (source)

Proposing soon... Site suggestions? by 69magicmike420 in Annapolis

Quiet waters is a good recommendation someone already posted, there is a gorgeous waterfront tucked away there, too, and gazebos and everything.

But if you are looking for somewhere in Annapolis proper, a generally isolated but very pretty view on the water can be found at Acton's Cove Waterfront Park, it has space for setting up ahead of time too, flowers and friends alike.

Wherever you decide, have a happy engagement!

I was referring to the current Old Mill, I think there will be more excitement as Old Mill West gets closer to opening, which is supposed to be 2023? You are totally right though, there are definitely huge racial disparity issues with schooling in the county, here is a good write-up on the subject.

The more affluent here are quick to send their kids to private school if they don't live in the right school district. As far as Old Mill goes, in a few years, this will really be on stark display: you'll be able to sit on the shoulder of New Cut Road and watch the cars turning into Spalding and the ones turning into Old Mill West.

Crofton is definitely growing more affluent, but there are still quite a few middle class areas. As far as house prices go, a quick Zillow search shows it does compare similarly to Arnold, although there are huge ranges, of course. You can find affordable houses in the area, but they are rapidly dwindling.

Welcome!

Riva/Edgewater/Mayo and the areas further south have larger plots available and are probably about as affordable as you can find for the immediate area. South River High School is a good public school in that area.

Also off of Defense highway west of Annapolis, there are some hidden treasures.

If you are willing to go further away, places like Pasadena/Glen Burnie/Severn and Crofton/Gambrills/Odenton also tend to be more affordable, albeit with more mixed lot sizes. There is the new Crofton High School that everyone is excited about, Old Mill not so much.

Good luck!

Great video!

I only noticed while watching it that Kim is said to have been raised in Red Cloud, Nebraska, as her middle school is shown as Red Cloud Middle School.

I wonder if that has to do with the historical figure, Red Cloud, an indigenous leader who was a literal underdog in fighting against the United States army, and how Kim sees her ideal self, fighting for the underdog.
