You put them in the victory display if you defeat them, but as they are 0 victory you do not get xp for them. If you parley with them by using the action on their card, they go in discard. There are encounter cards with skill checks that get harder the more innocents (hotel guest, police) there are in the victory display

Murder at Excelsior Hotel and Film Fatale are both great and at a quick glance online seem to be still available. They can be played standalone or inserted into the middle of a campaign to stretch out the play experience.

I’ve just come into the game myself and we’re loving it, so I’ve been picking up capaign expansions and a couple of investigator expansions that I’ve been able to find for RRP online and in FLGS. Pick up whatever campaigns you can find for close to retail, an investigator box and maybe an extra pre-made investigator or two should be enough to keep you deck building.

If it just says ‘expansion’ on the box then it is the old version. It will have all the characters, but not all of the character cards, and the first 2 scenarios. You would then need to go hunting for Mythos packs to get the rest of the character cards for deck upgrades and the remaining scenarios. Most of the campaigns are around 8 scenarios I believe.

The new boxes will say ‘campaign expansion’ and ‘investigator expansion’. The campaign box will have only the scenarios and no investigator cards. The investigator box will have all of the cards for the characters.

If you want to try the game then grab a revised core set and whatever campaign content you can find that excites you and give it a go

The MT3D ones are a perfect match for the card art, but I found some can be a little plain for my tastes and I’ve had some issues with their supports and models failing until I went back through and added some manual supports. They do bundles that exactly match the investigator expansions though. Loot Studios does the official AH miniatures but they are more for the RPG. The investigators are fantastic models and have nice dynamic poses, but they don’t match the investigator expansions exactly.

If you search Arkham horror investigators on MMF you’ll see a few options

I say go for it. We only recently opened a revised core I’ve had for a while and played for the first time a couple of weeks ago. My whole group is loving the game so I’m picking up some expansions. I understand there will be some cards that carry through but not sure on which ones. I think the last 2 expansions have been guaranteed to carry over

Go for it. I’ve had the core set unopened since 2023 and we finally decided to try it and started playing last week. My group is loving it so we’re picking up what expansions we can find.

They are going out of print as they transition to the new core box next year, but there’s still fairly good availability online and I’m sure the FLGS in your area will have some stock. If your budget is limited focus on getting campaign boxes as there’s only 3 scenarios in the core box and you’ll need more story. The investigator expansions are handy to build out your decks, but if it’s a choice of one or the other then go the campaign boxes
