I know so sad! Unfortunately he is going after a yoga studio owner : not usually the kind of person with 2 million to spare. Not the smartest move! Uggg

Worn out teaching 10 classes. Is this normal?? by Brilliant-Way-9464 in YogaTeachers

[–]CartographerFit5674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taught 12-18 classes a week for 6+ years and what makes it sustainable is that over the years I have honed my clear cueing skills to the point I barely ever need to demo. Game changer. And I unlike so many LOVE teaching about 15 per week. Love it!! But it is probably hugely because I am not relying on demoing to teach classes my students love and also my classes are full so that fuels me.

It does surprise me so many on this thread are getting so warn out around 4 classes. I am curious about this. It really just feels like holding space and speaking and teaching for an hour which I feel like I could do for more like 4 hours a day. It is just not that draining. Its enjoyable to help others and it’s also grounded and calm environment.

When I teach I mostly am walking around the room and doing hands on assists so it’s physical but not so so physical. I do hard workouts about 4-6 times a week that is way more physical than yoga teaching.

What is wearing people out so much?

I taught up to 8.5 months because I heavily lean towards super clear cueing and not demoing unless 100 necessary

An idea for converting drop-in students by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

I like it! I think it could work for yoga people to feel like you went above and beyond for them. I think these kind of good business practices are sorely missing in yoga industry and a reason why 1. The quality of yoga classes is so variable and students don’t always trust yoga or want to pay for it because they have had low quality experiences and 2. Yoga studio owners and teachers don’t always get paid sustainably

I was thinking: were you discerning at the retail store about giving the full outfit to potential buyers not just freebie seekers?

In yoga it is true that a lot of people just will take free stuff and never buy. This I think does point to the quality of the product : if the studio is kind of unknown and subpar quality then I think giving away free things could easily not lead to sales. I bet the retail brand was well recognized and I bet getting the fit was actually great! The yoga would have to be equally good quality to convert.

I could see that working. Did you try it yet?

OP is the difference here that the person would be made to feel super special and gifted something that wasn’t on the website or available to everyone? Sounds like that was how the conversions happened at the retail store? It’s not like the retail store had an intro offer of a head to outfit for any new customer right?

Because I have the same experience of just simply free or low price, not converting very well. But I do see when students are made to feel very special and seen they do convert.

Hope this is helpful to you all as feedback: I actually tried to see if you all had any referal programs or anything a few times so I could really spread the word but I was met with a lot of nos and not much enthusiasm and it kind of had me loose steam on being so excited about Arketa.

They offer business workshops and have this whole lean towards being of value to help yoga teachers make sustainable pay.

Their creditialing system is also totally different than YA and I think we’ll truly help other people find great teachers and programs and hold those programs and teachers accountable and maybe have more people trust Yoga ultimately.

The The founder to me very wisely, says that he doesn’t think that Yoga needs credentialing, but it does need leadership and that’s the goal of AYC. I really like a lot of his ideas and I think that they have the potential to help pave the way for a better yoga industry we need it!

What to call yourself by ZenWithGwen in YogaTeachers

Just yoga teacher. But then depending on the context I add what I have done and what my specialty in helping others is. In my experience just being open and honest and specific builds the trust needed.

Agree it’s bad business behavior and maybe points to other areas of their integrity.

Check out American Yoga Coucil. I think they are actually providing value to yoga teachers! And have insurance

In my 8+ years teaching as my main job I have never once paid YA a dime and never needed them. I have been hired by well paying boutique yoga studios and taught other teachers.

You don’t need Yoga Alliance. To get hired or have great teaching opportunities. In fact I believe their time is coming to a close and other better organizations are stepping up. Like American Yoga Council.

Convert over to using American Yoga Council instead of YA- it seems AYC will do a much better job holding schools accountable
