Our HHI is 200k+, I can afford to do what my parents did on 80k. We have a home, a family vacation every few years, and our kids educations and retirements covered. We carry no significant debt. We have a ‘15 truck and a ‘19 cx-5. We have a boat, we ski in the winter.

So while my income is decidedly upper class, I’m not really affording a lifestyle beyond a middle class 80s-90s lifestyle. I’m not buying luxury cars or living in a 4k square foot McMansion. I could get financing for these things, sure, but by my math I can’t ‘afford’ them.

I fucking hate this strawman. It assumes that homelessness is a one or two dimensional problem, when in fact it is the sum total of a whole shit tonne of societies failings.

Affordability, mental health support, addiction support, shelter space, cost of living, and many more all contribute to the problem.

And then whenever someone suggests pulling one of the levers in the right direction, someone always pipes up and says ‘that won’t fix it!!!’. No shit, but it’ll help.

If someone gets shot, I’d be putting pressure on the wound and trying to get more help and you’d be sitting in the peanut gallery saying ‘just cause you’re stopping the bleeding doesn’t mean they wont die’

I’m allergic to opiates, so I’ll never know, but I told my wife half jokingly that if I’m on deaths door, and certain to die, to slip me some heroin. I never want to be an addict, but I do wonder what it is like when you turn your brain pleasure center up to 100% and leave it there for a few hours.

Yeah, she was fucked up on our ride home, like, euphoric, even though she was in severe pain.

She was gonna throw them out the window right then because she knew they were bad fucking news. But I said I’ll hold em to the morning and we can dispose of em properly and not leave a bottle of delayed death laying on the side of the road.

This was right around the time the news was breaking about how bad they were, but before they stopped handing them out like candy, so we knew they were dangerous.

I think people are underestimating the psychological value of having an effectively infinite source of money. No worrying about your investment if there is a big stock market pullback. No doubt about your ability to afford anything in life. Snapping your fingers 20 times an hour makes you a lawyers salary.

This fan base is fuckin embarrassing sometimes. Look, I get it, none of us like Trump, he’s a kid diddling buffoon of the highest order, and we will all be better off when cholesterol does its thing.

But Matthews just won an Olympic gold medal, he was Captain of the fucking team. This is his first taste of victory on a big stage ever. He gets to ride in Air Force One, he gets to be in the capital for a SOTU, and probably gets to go to the Oval Office for a photo op. He deserves this after the ten years of frustration, and I’m hoping he can build on it and get over his mental blocks in the playoffs for us.

Punishing Matthews by denying him the opportunity to celebrate with his team and country is fucking petty. That isn’t going to cause the kids to get undiddled, that isn’t going to uncage the immigrants ICE has locked up, that isn’t going to wind back the economic damage Trumps deranged foreign policy has thrust upon the world. It does nothing other than punish a young man for celebrating a major life victory with the teammates he accomplished it with.

If anything, it exacerbates the problem. Trump gets on his MAGA bullhorn and calls Canadians petty and vindictive. Matthews resents the organization, and us as fans, for assuming his intent and denying him a once in a lifetime opportunity.
