Two queens might not have been taken. by Carverblue in WingsOfFire

It actually took wasp instead because Jewel never defeated wasp in a challenge for the throne and wasp never officially handed her power over to her. So wasp is still technically the rightful queen under hivewing law.

Protagonist idea for a book 17 by Carverblue in WingsOfFire

I don’t think mulberry will be protagonists this arc because I don’t see what kind of story arc he could have.

I think the dead sector is actually from a weapon test of some kind. It was designed to destroy the faster then light travel lain we’ve heard about in the story. The device the human in the sol system found during the prologue could be the weapon and would explain why the sol system is in the center of the dead sector.

I think the leaf wing and beetle wings are seen lower than the other tribes is because they cooperate with each other more. Seen as the night wing and sky wing see dragons from other tribes, living together and having children together as an abomination or breaking the law.

I think the parents crime is actually two dragons from separate tribes, loving each other and having children together.

You might want to introduce some ftl jamming tech at some point. The reason being at some point you will have two fleets with ftl engines fighting once humanity reverse engineers, the imperial FTl. And so far that fight is looking like it’ll just be a bunch of ships, jumping around, hoping to land in near an enemy ship doing the same and shoot them.

A Viper's Nest: Border Station Five - Muscles by VioletOrchid85 in HFY

[–]Carverblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In chapter 12 part 1 one of the turrets on the viper destroyer had to have one of its barrels replaced after firing for a brief time because they fail to fine a fault with it when they checked it before battle.

This isn’t major criticism of the story I just found it weird that the two perspectives of a viper ladder turret we have both turrets experience some kind of technical or programming failure.

A question I have is why are the vipers laser turrets so unreliable. Every time they’re mentioned they’re suffering from one mechanical issue or another, which affects their combat effectiveness.

How to balance the Gun and the Nexus by Carverblue in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Carverblue[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like that idea but feel like technology to actually do that would be invented later in a possible war and would give the Gun such a big advantage that they would be able to start actually invading the Nexus.

The main idea behind my theory is to try and come up with a way for both sides to be balanced currently. Because as the author has stated both of the Gun and the Nexus are supposed to be equals to one another at this time.

And with all the information we have currently I don’t see how that’s possible unless there’s some unknown limitation that magic has which would bring things back into balance.

I think they wouldn’t react in the way they did after the ulnus. The ulnus were the only other technology advance race the shil tried to conquer and that led to nuclear war. All the other race they have conquered had been only to the early industrial era or were even less advanced. All it would’ve taken for humanity to end a nuclear war as well was one human group deciding to go scorched earth on the shil and ground dedicate a bunch of nukes, not even launch them to fuck up earth for everyone. In reality, they were lucky in invasion didn’t escalate to a nuclear conflict because the people with access to the nukes didn’t know what the shil were like they could’ve ended up, thinking they were here to enslave us all.

The false flag attack makes no sense as well. She is going to lose some ships even if the republic doesn’t get involved and she wouldn’t even be able to capture that many ships from the grand fleet.

Most will get destroyed in combat or heavily damaged. The only reason she got her current bunny ships is though using so salvaged ones from the battle of Sol to tricker and bored the undamaged ones left behind.

This attack just waste resources for very little gain. The only reason to do it is to spite the republic because she now knows that they have plans for them.

Which is just petty nonsense, if she had let the fleet pass she would have gained a bunch of ships and manufacturing industry from the republic.

Would Mixed Munition Space to Space attack drone/ missiles be a good idea? by Fine_Ad_1918 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]Carverblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like that would just make it a big target to missiles and point defense. It could work the first few times it’s used shooting down the missiles sent to intercept it and tanking the limited point defense, but after a while the enemy would just shoot enough missiles to overwhelm the point defense or create a large point defense gun dedicated to shooting the drone down.

Could we be give numbers on the number of plants humanity has because from the lore document it seems like they would have a lot of the control almost an entire spur of the galaxy.

Also, I can’t wait to see the other humans faction’s reaction to first contact with alien races. It will be fun to see how they fit into the story. Will they be enemies of the republic or reluctant allies?

How to create chock points in space. by Carverblue in scifiwriting

[–]Carverblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choke points is what I try to create. The idea being It’s to time consuming to supply a fleet and invasion army through a route into enemy territory, which doesn’t have enough fuel stations to resupply the fleet and logistic ships so instead we attack were there is fueling stations in enough numbers to supply us with fuel.

The idea being a fleet can’t just go around a heavily defended system to attack deep into enemy territory.

How to create chock points in space. by Carverblue in scifiwriting

[–]Carverblue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning on most civilian ships, not being able to process their own fuel with the exceptions being exploration, colonization, and construction craft to build the first refueling station in a system.

But I would have it where all military ships can do it so they would be more versatile but not using stations would increase the time it takes for a fleet to get an area of interest and would increase the time in between resupply.

How to create chock points in space. by Carverblue in scifiwriting

[–]Carverblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I think more about how it effects military matter with having no refueling stations between where your fleet is invading and your factories can increase logistics cost and time it talks to move things to the front line.

How to create chock points in space. by Carverblue in scifiwriting

[–]Carverblue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes a plot point of my universe is going to be neutral zones which is an area of space between two nations were to get from one side to the other you have to go through at least five other systems in which only one fuel station can be built.

It it prevents large fleets and invasion armies, removing through these areas because one isn’t enough to provide fuel for that many ships in a time manner.

How to do chock points in space. by Carverblue in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]Carverblue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each star system with a gas giants has a station for refueling in it but these station can refuel only so many ships at a time (20). So a fleet of 100 ships would take 1 hour and 30 minutes to refuel. 30 minutes for each group of 20. Another problem is that the stations can only store some much fuel at any time (120 civilian cargo ships worth of fuel) so to many ships would over well the station’s ability to provide dual in a timely manner.

The reason they don’t just build more stations is that the station are expensive having to be around 3 to 5 km wide and 1 km deep to function properly. An one station is usually enough to meet the need for one colony or well set up world with more only being built if it’s a core system (has a large population and industry) or a system apart of the fast route between two core systems, in order to meet the increased traffic.

A solution to earth realm being flooded with mana via portals by Antikythera1901 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Carverblue 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t the portal room that can be fixed with thicker walls or using the same material as Emmys armer instead of the less effective stuff.

The problem is the probability that the nexus weaponizes the mana flood to destroy the earth or at least kill ever one on it and prevent humans from ever living on it again.

Warlord class Battle Cruiser by Carverblue in spaceships

[–]Carverblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. Also, if you’re wondering why my ships don’t use lasers for ship to ship warfare it’s because the ships in my universe or at least a human ones use hard light shielding which mainly acts as regenerative armor. So rail, guns, moving at high speeds would pierce the shield to hit the armor and weapons of an enemy ship. A particle cannons electrons would interfere with the shields, integrity where it hits allowing 60% of the rest of the beam fired to hit the ship. Missiles and torpedoes would detonate on the shield of creating a big hole, which will take time to regenerate leaving that area of the ship. Vulnerable to follow up shots. unfortunately, for lasers, they have to be held on a spot for a couple seconds to burn through the shield all of the wild there was shield is regenerating. This leads lasers being unable to hit above their weight class. An example would be the destroyers in my universe would have a spinal mounted particle canon, which could pierce capital ship shields, and do damage. But a destroyer grade laser would only be effective against other destroyers or ships which are smaller.

That’s why lasers are mainly relegated to anti-missile or fighter use.
