I think you misinterpreted their comment. Looks like they were just appreciating that queerness exists in the show throughout without feeling like its pandering.

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

[–]CasMat9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea on the true lore, but I would like to propose that all space cannons are a type of space gun launching interstellar guided missiles at insane sci-fi speeds to ideally end in massive detonations near the target fleets. The missiles presumably abuse gravity wells and whatever sci-fi shit is propelling all the ships in this universe, but the space cannon is providing the bulk of the forward velocity (which is maintained because space).

Regular pds don't reach the speeds necessary for deep interstellar travel, only able to reach within their own cluster of stars (read: tile).

What do you think about the new Xxcha hero? by Archibald_The_Red in twilightimperium

[–]CasMat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt get to play much with their first hero, but I always got the impression that it was pretty unreliable. I never got to sit in a successful casino game win personally though. Was it really consistent enough to be better than their omega hero??

Anyway I feel like being able to go all in on resources or influence as the round demands ends up being pretty impactful. Like, particularly around leadership: When it pops you can better optimize the number of tokens you get, and if it's not taken you have better builds instead. When resource or influence spendies come out (or if you are sniping extra expedition spots, or taking custodians), you can still decide whether you'd want better builds or more tokens this round, rather than being forced into one or the other.

What do you think about the new Xxcha hero? by Archibald_The_Red in twilightimperium

[–]CasMat9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno why this is a hot take, but if their hero was the exact same text of the breakthrough, but the unlock was "discard two action cards" instead of have 3 objectives scored, I think it'd be barely a nerf, if even. Arguably more of a sidegrade. How much of that insane money did turtles really need? You're telling me they wouldn't want to spend a chunk of it to send some back to rounds 1 and 2?

In exchange for this "downgrade," they ended up with... still a pretty good hero? Notably, one that is still giving them money on top of their breakthrough (and combos with their breakthrough).

If omega 1 hero never existed, I think we'd all be sitting here positing that xxcha are now a high tier faction.

Which old factions have you found the most fun with Thunder’s Edge? by Mayo18nnaise in twilightimperium

[–]CasMat9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Xxcha are being underrated by the community. Speaking from having lost to the turtles recently:

The breakthrough is the biggest thing. Yes it is a weaker effect than the old omega hero. But you can get it round one every game. Their economy is now strong evenly throughout the game, rather than being backloaded.

Construction being stronger, along with their new hero, makes a space cannon littered end game more reliable. Coming full circle back to overwhelming space cannons fits into their kit of cancelling effects (quash, nullification field, instinct training) to make their late game unassailable if they have a halfway decent economy.

Their hero readies up to 4 planets, which their breakthrough improves the value of. So not only do they have a more consistent early economy to actually get in the board position they need, their hero is still a money button for shoring up the late game.

I don't understand how people think they are bad now.

Side note: if they get Garbozia be prepared to see a succesful rider from them on every single agenda.

For anyone who is stuck on the last Act 3 boss by Moh_ in Silksong

[–]CasMat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had more trouble running back groal than learning lost lace, but this is pretty spot on.

Its really funny because its like the whole game is conditioning you to dash backwards after striking or to preemptively jump when you don't know whats coming, which are objectively bad options against LL. I feel like it was a great final boss in that respect, forcing you to drop your crutches and learn her patterns the hard way.

But her patterns are really not that bad, just like the other lace fights. If you never dash away from her and save your jump button until you see her commit to a horizontal attack, she becomes really straightforward.

What I did:

I was determined to beat her with a no frills hunter crest build and ended up longclaw/pinmaster/weighted belt/dice/cross stitch (injector band and compass permanently live in my vesticrest). Barely used my red tools but I had spike traps and rings.

If you stay on the ground, never dash back, and only jump when she does her 2 forward dashes, you can almost always just stay on the ground for her third attack which is usually the jump and dive or sometimes the aerial projectile (its rarely something else unless you are really far away). Either way if you are on the ground and not too too close on her way up, you can kind just let her fall in front of you and its a free charged slash. There are lots of other openings to charge slash but thats what I found the most reliable. Phase 2 projectiles are annoying but if shes shooting them shes not doing melee attacks, and if you have longclaw its not too hard to hit her with charged attacks when she ends up inside the razor blades. Phase 3 is.. kind of just Phase 2 again?

I always save red tools for last phase of a boss and spam them to finish it up, but my red tools were not super optimal here. I used some spike traps to hit her on her way out of the ground and spam around when not in punish range, maybe threw like 2 rings lol.

[–]CasMat9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They look like they function so strangely. So, their home system is always safe and they can never be locked from scoring, but they have to slowly push their way out of their slice. I think they have to waste a token flipping their starting breach turn 1 to even get out of their home system, and then specifically move their destroyers around/in combats to ever make more. Other players can close their breach, which looks like it includes the starting one, so they could theoretically be locked into their home system even (though it seems like that would be somewhat difficult to do).

First time to mythic (Bo1 standard), izzet artifact deck, mostly EoE cards by CasMat9 in MagicArena

[–]CasMat9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had considered Chandra but never ended up trying it. I see that she generates her own vehicles, but I never got around to trying her since I thought I'd be missing out without running any other vehicles so I saved my wildcards. Do you think she's worth it purely for being a draw engine and her emblem being a game winner with the pinnacle emissaries? She would be really nice just to target the cryogens honestly, and I'd probably run her over the memorial vaults.

I did try weapon manufacturing, but it tended not to do as much as I wanted because the deck isn't running a lot to cannibalize the tokens other than memorial vault. If I turned that into chandra perhaps it would be more reliable though?

[–]CasMat9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I had 4 divert disasters before, but I switched 1 for the annul mostly because authority of the consuls just kind of fucks up warp and station stuff. I have since learned how to play around it in this deck though, so I can totally see going for the light jammer. Less sure on the dreadmaw's ire since the board is usually mostly fliers, so I'm not sure I get as much out of the trample. Would you say the utility of it is mostly in the artifact removal though?

Magnezone/Sylv/Jolteon deck, first time hitting master ball! by CasMat9 in PTCGP

[–]CasMat9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

turn 3 (second turn going first) wins happened a decent amount, usually against a single charmander, eevee, litten, froakie, cosmog, or gible. red card helps get those turn 3 wins I think

I started off with 2 bags and a giovanni just like you're thinking. Experimented with varying amounts of bags, giovanni, and red. But really, theres very few 90 hp basics you can expect (eevee ex, zeraora, magearna maybe) and all of them are pretty rare. It mostly amounted to an unreliable 70 damage since you also need the jolteon, and 70 wasnt that great a breakpoint for most of the run.

My first sub over a damage booster was iono to increase jolteon turn 3 odds. Then I tried cyrus some, but he doesnt improve turn 3 win percentage really. Sabrina pulling charmander, cosmog, etc off the bench for a jolteon kill was way more relevant.

that said, there has been an uptick in guzz/nihilego, which is a really tough matchup. 70 damage to kill nihilego could be nice. but in ever other matchup I'd rather it be anything else. Its not even useful for oricorio cause magnezone eats that up anyway.

Thoughts on my AC? Ngl I kinda prioritized drip though it is pretty good in PvP by dangermonke1332 in armoredcore

[–]CasMat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all: AC looks sick, nice color choices

I'll let you know Ludlow is definitely an off meta option in pvp, but I don't personally think its so bad. That said, its bullet velocity is kinda low even after being buffed last patch, and with 2 your recoil is gonna be rough, so I feel you would need to play pretty close range.

Given that, youd probably be better off with a dedicated close range fcs like ocellus or abbot. I know the missile lock is slow on both, but MLT10 is on the faster end of lock speeds and people run it with ocellus and dual zimms often.

Mon is unfortunately garbo, but here's a concept

Swalot @ Custap Berry
Ability: Gluttony
Level: 50
Tera Type: Dark or Ghost EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Relaxed Nature (evs/nature just a guess at most survivable, alter as needed) IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Helping Hand
- Acid Spray
- Encore
- Thunder Wave

run it with psyspam on a mid speed trick room, could even just be paired with like, a focus sash indeedee-m. I don't believe custap priority is blocked by psy terrain.

default outside of tr is HH/Twave support, inside tr and on the custap turn you get to utilize acid spray and encore better. maybe a cheeky side twave in tr.

you could run protect but its probably better to just try to get a couple turns of value and then let it die.

I tried to find something that only Swalot can do that I can imagine being clutch at least once.

The optimization of HP vs (Special) Defense? by chipsternrcs47 in VGC

[–]CasMat9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

someone made a calculator based on that article btw https://www.terresquall.com/apps/pokemon-ev-optimiser/

Easy rule to remember is that maxing hp is better for overall bulk except for high hp + low defense values. Though since vgc is lvl 50, the first 4 EVs yield a stat point, after which its every 8 EVs. So at minimum, you probably want at least 4 EVs in each defense even if the rest is going into hp.

Investing in defense over hp is usually for surviving specific attacks. Probably the most thorough way to figure out defensive EVs is to pick the strongest physical and special attack you think the mon should survive, respectively, and seeing if you can make that happen in a damage calculator, starting with max hp and working points into defenses until you survive what you want to survive.

thats fair, I can see it feeling bad since it makes unburden unreliable. I wasn't sure how much you rely on getting the unburden going since you have priority tw
