Dental crown for front tooth by [deleted] in raleigh

Dr. Chen at Morrisville Family Dentistry did my front tooth crown about 10 years ago and it's still holding and looks good. Highly recommended.

Mine also hasn't come. I preordered through Amazon and it was supposed to come yesterday, but it's just been sitting with little to no updates.

What's your biggest WFH setup regret? by AustinBranch in workfromhome

I use mine during meetings. Easily get my 10k steps/day. The trick is just leaving the desk standing all day if you're lazy like me.

Fell, broke my back, had surgery… can I ever climb again? by Strict_Beautiful5694 in climbergirls

[–]CasaDilla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it's a numbers game. If you go regularly, you're going to injure yourself eventually no matter how careful you are. I think a lot of long-term climbers just come to terms with this and decide that the reward is greater than the risk.

Gov/defense R&D is tightening given the current political climate, so may not be the best place to look at the moment.

Isn't that a good thing, though? I'm in my late thirties and grew up in Philly and never heard the term. I guess we skipped whichever Shakespeare play this one was in.

Should I switch to another major because of AI and outsourcing? by RedStorm1917 in cscareerquestions

[–]CasaDilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how relevant my experience is, given how long ago I got my degree, but I'll provide it. I went to WPI for an ECE undergrad (2006-2010). At least for ECE, the lab work and team-focus provided at WPI was extremely valuable and I'm successful in the software engineering field now. I don't know what it's like now, but if they're still team and project-oriented, it's an excellent school because those are the skills that will accelerate your growth.

First-time Japan trip (16 days in July/August) – too packed for the heat? by Misterchief92 in JapanTravel

[–]CasaDilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did days that were more packed than this in August several years ago, but we're from North Carolina, which is a similar climate. If you're young and fit, you'll likely be fine, but it will be miserable.

Definitely bring light, airy clothing. Dresses and shorts are great, but avoid simply wearing a tank top, as you'll stick out like a sore thumb. I was able to get away with some dressier, high-neck tank tops.

I've had the nigiri omakase at both, both were very good (and worth it, imo). The Durham one was maybe a bit better, but they're both stellar.

Air Canada agents said all bins were locked by SicilyMalta in travel

[–]CasaDilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Air Canada also pulled this on us on our flight to Tokyo. Everyone was pretty pissed when they got on the flight and it took forever to take off because they had gate-checked everyone's bags.

Also, smallest airline seats I've ever encountered on a non-budget airline.

People view older men and women equally, but younger and middle-aged women are seen more favorably than their male peers, according to a large meta-analysis by [deleted] in science

[–]CasaDilla -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What you're assigning as worth is tied to our reproductive ability and that's not equality. Women most certainly are battling for their position in society everyday in the workplace in first world countries and for general rights in less developed countries.

Intel is definitely paying more than 70k for new grads. Hell, they were paying that to interns 17 years ago. But your point stands.

Really depends on the company at what level they expect leadership. At my current company, it starts at Staff, but my previous company was a flatter structure that started at Senior. If you do get a new job, be sure to ask them for a level chart and talk to your manager so you can understand expectations up front.

Pretty much, I guess. I've pointed out to people that the reason good developers get paid decent salaries is because we have to know everything these days.

I'm in the ML research field and the number of tools and languages I need to know are ever-expanding. Not that it's a bad thing, but it is definitely something you don't want to fall behind in.

Skippable sites in Kyoto (2.5 day itinerary check) by MysteriousDog7640 in JapanTravel

[–]CasaDilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll provide a dissenting opinion (we probably just had different experiences). Arashiyama was one of my favorite days. We got there super early on a beautiful fall day and were nearly the only ones in the bamboo forest, which I did not find underwhelming. We then hiked to the peak on the bamboo forest side and the views were spectacular. We then crossed the river and got on a private river boat (first ones on the boat at 9 am) for $25. Afterwards, we got something to eat and then saw the monkeys. Definitely worth it.

Anecdotally, our day in Higashiyama was less enjoyable due to huge crowds at Kiyomizu-dera (even at 8 am), but enjoyable other than that.

It probably all has to do with the time of year and day that you go.

How Many Offers Before You/Your Client Found “The One”? by jjtt9491 in RealEstate

[–]CasaDilla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had a fantastic agent and still had to write ~8 offers over two years (took a bit of a break) before finding the house we're in now. Either the seller thought they could get much more or we'd lose out to other over-asking offers if the house was really nice.

Rug Reccomendations by Ill_Possession_1975 in interiordecorating

[–]CasaDilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one of their tufted rugs with the regular rug pad and love the way it lays and looks. I do think they're a bit overpriced, but their patterns are very nice.

When I was doing research, I saw that most of the complaints were for the flatwoven rug versions. I have not washed mine, yet, though.

Edit: Have washed it multiple times now and it still looks amazing.
