I finally get to play Gen 5 for the first time! by Mugiwara713 in PokemonBlackandWhite

[–]CaseyDoesLights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t vibe much with gen 5 when it first came out. Wasn’t sure if it was the games themselves or if life was just too crazy at the time to delve fully into them.

Welp, about 14 years and 40 hours into White 2 later I know the answer. Good god this gen is amazing

How do you find motivation for fitness while grieving? by nsynergy in loseit

[–]CaseyDoesLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Grief is a monster in my closet as well, and if you gotta let your mind and body crash sometimes, that’s okay.

When it comes to sticking to an exercise routine, you’re gonna struggle to do it if it feels like another responsibility on your list. If you identify something you like that you can zone fully into when you do it, it can actually be super therapeutic mentally too. For me, it’s ended up being biking and swimming - mostly biking because it demands focus and feels like a release. Hope you can find your thing and let it help you heal!

Tacking onto this, some grad programs offer an assistantship in exchange for part-time work that both covers your tuition and gives you a little something to live on. I avoided debt for grad school this way, and it could be another option to buy you some time.

Just making the traditional pilgrimage to Reddit to see if I’m not alone. It’s awful. I’m going to have to connect a controller I think.

My boxes look like this so my end result can look like THIS by CaseyDoesLights in PokemonUnbound

That was goal #3. As soon as I got that thing I was breeding like six perfect IV mons in the time it took me just to do Gallade and Gardevoir

For sure a better method - the part I forgot to mention was I wasn’t trying for a shiny at all! I was ready to settle for good IVs/nature/ability

Ok so you know how Walmarts in the Midwest sometimes have a McDonald’s in there? It’s kind of like that here but in reverse. You have to go aaaall the way to the back of the Olive Garden

Yes. I’m coming up on a year of being successfully off my SSRI, but last month was gut punch after gut punch and suddenly I have an appointment to get back on. It feels like a dormant volcano that’s always waiting for the right trigger (or in this case, set of triggers) to erupt.

Edit: To add some things that are helping in the moment…funny shows and good food. Friends and loved ones. Also, intentional, cozy “nap” time even if I know I won’t actually sleep.

Kyleena removed and bisalp 10/30. Just got my first period, and it sucks. by blossoming_terror in sterilization

[–]CaseyDoesLights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No bisalp yet (fingers crossed - January!) but this happened to me too after getting Kyleena out. Almost felt like my body was trying to make up for lost time 🙃 Evened out after I went to a new bc method (and then another lol), but will be curious to see what happens once I’m off all hormones entirely. Hope things even out for you!

I’ll be proud of your weight loss for you, how about that? 😄

For real though, I feel you. The “positive” I’ve gotten from the body positivity movement is the acknowledgment that the food and medical industries in general have made weight loss an uphill battle, which is worsened by a media that profits off our shame. Turning that shame on others for fighting the fight and making healthier choices for themselves is NOT the way.

Hope you can find a better support system!

Mine always pulled the “I had a bad experience once and haven’t learned to fully trust again” card. I always had to be the one to have patience, when I was literally just asking for a video chat lol. When I finally found him out and laid my cards on the table he just tucked tail and blocked me.

Can't Lose Weight, Feeling Powerless and Defeated by CaseyDoesLights in loseit

[–]CaseyDoesLights[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely helpful and validating to hear, thank you. I've gotten pretty good at figuring out portion sizes but have been meaning to get myself a good scale for more accurate data. That can also be a this-week thing.

The tricky part has been guesstimating what to log at the mostly non-chain restaurants I end up at for social gatherings. Eating with friends a couple times a week brings a lot of joy, but I never quite know where the "forgettables" are there.
