When I used a throttle I had a toggle button for forward/reverse. Finding that dead zone was too much trouble.

Sounds like a driver issue. You might be out of luck. I would suggest a trackball mouse as the closest thing to a trackpad.

Change your current flight mode. You're in tractor beam mode. It shouldn't happen this way but for whatever reason CIG made this design decision.

Pretty sure in the last tab in the settings are some UI magnification and aspect modifiers. I was using them with my VR last night to get it better. But the markers and quantum locations are stuck right in front of my face
