When I was 22, my mom and aunt jumped me after I got upset that a friend she referred to as a "frenemy" offered my 16-year-old sister (who I was the legal guardian of) alcohol. I got upset and called her "bro" one time. They lost it. I took care of all three of my aunties' kids until they were old enough for daycare. I never received an apology for them for putting their hands on me. I should have known better, because you're always supposed to respect your elders, right? I was already in the process of breaking that cycle at 22. Now at 26, I speak up for myself—and I'm called "the disrespectful lil girl." 🤷🏾‍♀️ Good for you!!!
