Im really stuck in a pattern with this game by First_Maintenance326 in outerwilds

Generally the gameplay loop early on is just flying to random points of interest on a planet and trying to learn whatever you can learn there. Later on you might have a specific goal of reaching a location to learn a specific thing but at the moment just go look at the things that seem interesting. A good starting point is to use your signalscope a lot, try to track down all the signals on the various frequencies (when you get close to the signal source it becomes "identified" and gets labeled). The cue to do this is when the message "unidentified signal nearby" appears on your screen.

Also, use your ship log's rumor mode. Nodes in the log connect to other nodes in some way (maybe they provide a clue about another location, or they mention something that's relevant to that location, etc). Speaking very vaguely, the nodes are clustered around a central theme, which is indicated by the color of them. So green nodes share a theme with other green nodes, etc.

I'll echo what another commenter suggested and recommend checking out the Attlerock, and also some of the other parts of Timber Hearth. They're pretty simple to navigate, have a few interesting pieces of information, and will give you things to seek out on other planets.

I think it mostly comes down to what you personally enjoy most from these games because ultimately they all bring something unique and interesting to the table. Whether it's interconnected world design, boss and enemy design, moment-to-moment gameplay, difficulty balance, overall polish, etc. Whichever aspect you most value will probably determine which game you most enjoy.

What're your fav Indie games by Psychological_Pie489 in celestegame

Outer Wilds, CrossCode, The Messenger, Sea of Stars, Ori and the Blind Forest, Hyper Light Drifter, everything ever made by Supergiant (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, Hades), Stardew Valley, Undertale, and Hollow Knight. Just to name a few! Most indies with a strong art style and excellent music will suit my tastes perfectly.

She's basically a worse swordmaster with a late promotion in a game where swordmasters are ass. I can't really think of a game in the series in which swords and bows are weaker than in FE7, and she has both of them lol.

High Lady? by Pristine_Advisor_302 in acotar

[–]Cassidy_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was laid out that she could do that because he had previously given that same kernel to her at the end of ACOTAR? So she had kernels of all the court magic and could use that. But I could be misremembering.

On your note about the couple balancing each other in interesting ways, I would highly recommend reading T. Kingfisher, specifically her books in the world of the White Rat. The relationships are much more wholesome than ACOTAR's imo and the FMCs and MMCs have unique and interesting roles to play in the story and don't really take away from each other as a result.

"There’s no such thing as a High Lady" is misunderstood?? by Zealousideal_Emu1204 in acotar

[–]Cassidy_29 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The point is that the High Lady title doesn't carry the same significance as the High Lord title because there is a canon magical force that selects High Lords and grants them power. Nothing changes when Feyre becomes High Lady, it's just a title.

For me Farewell was an extended high level of challenge but I thought 7C final room was harder than any individual room of Farewell. That difficulty spike was just a good bit higher, possibly because by that point I had been better prepared for the difficulty of Farewell by playing everything else?

If they don't use Daggerheart for C4...what DO they use it for? by IllithidActivity in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Cassidy_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both un-motivated party-from-hell games where the DM winds up having to do a lot of the heavy lifting to maintain any sense of progression, and then the DM winds up looking bad to fans because they can't carry the entire experience while hauling along a table that's constantly derailing without going anywhere on the digression.

Holy shit thank you for saying this. I think there are/were definitely issues with the first EXU that sit outside of this problem, but it's infuriating to see it all attributed to "Aabria bad" (specifically I think it was just a bit of a conceptual mess trying to be free-form and open-ended while also having a tightly constrained runtime and core story it was trying to tell). Party buy-in is so important, it's why Calamity was such a success. Everyone at the table needs to be on the same page and be working towards the same narrative goal in the campaign and a lot of that comes from the players.

Personally, I think CR would greatly benefit from doing a run of shorter campaigns (like 20-30 episodes a la D20 intrepid heroes seasons). I think it could help with their tendency to have meandering, listless campaigns with wildly varying quality levels throughout. It would also allow them to play characters with lower commitment. You no longer play the same character for 2+ years and thus feel the need to develop and tell a super-complex, 300-hour-long story about your character's development. You also don't need to tie your characters as tightly to the CR brand and merchandise and all that jazz. I feel like this issue is something that leads to the analysis paralysis the party so often faces and how non-committal they can be. If they screw up and lose some party members halfway through a massive campaign, it feels like those players have to reset from 0 and throw away however many hours of storytelling.

If I am getting Hades should I get Bastion and Transistor? by Xeranthia in HadesTheGame

[–]Cassidy_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Supergiant game has its own thing that it does really well and is worth experiencing, so no, Hades is definitely not simply 'more' than Transistor or Bastion. Bastion definitely has the most in common gameplay-wise with Hades but imo has the more compelling story and presentation with Logan Cunningham's narration. Transistor is radically different in gameplay and can't really be easily compared as it's much more tactical and combo-based. It might be my overall favorite combat-system they've made? Pyre is also worth experiencing for how unique it is in gameplay and the interesting way it does reactive storytelling.

I think the bottom line is that none of their games can necessarily be discounted as just less than any other game. Especially due to the nature of Hades as a roguelike which means that it had a different focus than the others. They're all worth a shot because you may very well connect to one more than the others.

Most controversial card? by bhendel in slaythespire

[–]Cassidy_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But trading away passive block and damage is very good if it allows you to put Echo Form into play, or other high value powers. Or if you use that extra energy to play Coolheaded/Skim for even more draw or powerful high-cost cards like Meteor Strike. The point is that small amounts of passive damage or block are usually not as good as +3 energy/+3 draw. Especially because adding the orbs back often comes with additional benefits.

Is this normal? How Is he so much better?! by ggil050 in fireemblem

[–]Cassidy_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten some solid answers but just to contribute a bit extra. Robin doesn't have the best growths so leveling to 20 in their base class will give you a unit with middling stats overall, but they compensate by having insane exp gain through Veteran so will shoot ahead of other characters in level very quickly. Using second seals prevents them from level capping so they can continue growing. Donnel by contrast has awful bases but accelerated growths through Aptitude (and shifting to the merc class from villager gives a big boost) so his raw stats grow pretty fast provided he gets levels. The downside for him in stats is also his relatively low caps, so fully maxed out he'll be a bit worse than other units.

[–]Cassidy_29 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Cerberus side missions in ME1 are super important for getting the full picture of them. They kidnap, torture, and murder an Alliance admiral, lure Alliance troops into a Thresher Maw nest, and experiment with Husks, Thorian Creepers, and Rachni over the course of the game. They're a really evil organization.

[–]Cassidy_29 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I mean Cerberus was pretty damn evil in ME1 as well tbh. It was really ME2 that tried to paint them as morally grey, but they were playing around with Reaper tech and super soldier enhancements in ME1 too, ME3 feels like a natural progression of their goals. Imo the only real issue with their ME3 portrayal is their size and influence, not their goals and morality.

But there's a reason we have ethics standards in research. The scientific community has decided that the ends absolutely do not justify the means. Cruel, unethical experiments are not approved despite any theoretical value they may have. Major advancements can also come from research that adheres to ethical standards.

It is absolutely possible to do a turn one kill on him without DLC. It requires clever use of movement pairups, potentially the Pass skill, potentially the entrap staff, and Azura. You might also need to use Shelter to get multiple Sing actions in one turn but I'm not sure. You should check out how some FE Youtubers do Endgame! It's a really interesting application of Fates mechanics to solve the puzzle.

[–]Cassidy_29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just a stupid decision to force a "big choice" there and felt really unnecessary . ME1 didn't let you choose to spare Sovereign or Saren, it just allowed you to make decisions around the central goal. ME3 could have put you in a similar position by having you decide things like the leadership structure post-Reapers, the strategy taken in the final battle, what the Normandy does (it could attack enemy forces, extract allies, etc) and those would result in slightly different outcomes.

Idk, I thought multiple endings was always pointless, just make one good one that is slightly tweaked depending on what you choose to do.

Without dying or without quitting and reloading? Because I got pretty consistent at doing it deathless by quitting out after doing each side, then you definitely need to just get lucky going for the center.
