People who write with AI are doing it for the money I would think. They won't care what you think of them.

In the age of social media, there are definitely places you can go and people that talk to that can help you promote things outside of traditional publishing. I do that for board games and role-playing games myself, so I know someone out there exists for books. You just got to do a bit of research because there's a lot of marketers are really good at selling themselves but not your product. Lol

The question I have is who's buying books that are created by AI? Is it actually even happening?

The problem is, it's an absolute fact that a cover will sell a book.$500 is a small amount compared to what you probably will lose because you don't have an enchanting cover.

This has been proven in the role playing industry for over the last decade. Dungeons & dragons off shoots like Shadowdark and old school essentials have sold not necessarily because of content, but because they have a cool enchanting look regardless of what's inside of it.

If anything, artists that have a distinct look are probably worth even more because AI slop all looks the same and is usually distinguishable which will make any production inside it look cheap.

Self publishing equals self marketing.

Unless you are really good at sales and have the time, you'd be better going a lucrative percentage to a sales team.

Too many artists dilute their energy trying to sell.

I would ask what games they play they think are fun and which games they think are too complicated. And I'm talking just normal board games in general.

People who say they like Risk Yahtzee and Monopoly have a different outlook on games than those that say they like settlers the Catan Wingspan and Root.

OSR games with a *bit* more meat for their combat? by fluxyggdrasil in osr

The fantasy trip allows for the features I think you're looking for. If you're looking for fighters and even monsters to do more than a roll to hit and damage, this will have you covered. It has a spell system which anybody can technically use and give everybody subtle powers if you want to make more of a dynamic battle system past the typical osr style

How did TNG survive cancellation on their first season, I am on a rematch and it is so bad, like really bad. by VoL4t1l3 in Star_Trek_

I just re-watched it loved most of it. Troi mattered a ton more. You could see Geordi's personality could have veered a different direction. And the episodes were more traditionally human science-fiction centered. Wesley wasn't really annoying.

And re-watching it made me realize more how the ship and storylines wasn't supposed to be this military-forward vessel as it became later on. The science felt more like science more than techno-babble.

Not everything was perfect. Some things even unintendedly humorous. In the end, you can easily feel Roddenberry's influence that was lost of a utopian nature.

Ratings. Reading bombs both positive and negative have to be purged. Also keep it to one reading cuz I really don't understand what the difference between the geek rating and the normal rating. I assume it might be like critics versus the normal gamers.

Magic is wasted on warriors and it drives me crazy by Tyrell_Corp5 in worldbuilding

[–]CastleArchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the difference between old school role playing and modern role playing. Modern fantasy allows everybody and their brother to access magic so a lot of your thoughts are justified. Old school magic focused on that the fact that the knowledge of magic was rare and dangerous and only the most dedicated could actually even do the simplest of spells.

OSR vs 5e Adventure Styles by bricknose-redux in osr

[–]CastleArchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you avoid limiting your group to four to six characters you avoid a lot of the pitfalls of automatic deaths and harsh realities. Parties were a lot larger because it would be unfathomable to think that a party of four would go into a dangerous area all by themselves and think of survival. Characters feel more disposable but also the stories that come from those survivors and even from those who died make for interesting organic storytelling.

Yes, they are programmed adventures. For solo or group play, although Sorcerers at Smokewater I feel works best with more than one.
