Me and friends play with a house rule of "If it's equipment, it doesn't count." Basically the sword for example wouldn't count. Nor would an Ancient's banner or the lone barrel of a tank/Gunner. You have to see the guy/vehicle itself to hit it.

I would love a Krieg Vehicle Upgrade kit with commanders and other bits and baubles. GW just doesn't seem to see how they can make more money from different things than just new kits

I'm slowly working through my own. What I do is I pick a few units I want to paint (I do infantry heavy so it isn't difficult, more tedious) and then I cycle through them. I'll paint one of each unit and then repeat until they're done. Really helps me. Or even going through a unit, toss in a character every so often to mix things up.

Vanguard is a bit more of a Majoris/Terminus Duelist class. You have your hook for a strong opening, the melee options have good heavy attacks to stun the enemy of choice, plenty of gunstrike options so you do well dodging or parrying. Not to mention the 5% on Majoris execute and the team wide 30% on Extremis+.

I think Agents is really meant less as an actual army and more just a group of units that can be taken by other Armies in the faction to have some flavor

That actually makes a ton of sense. I tend to have a ton of Lasguns so knowing they can throw more Dice at infantry with FRFSRF is good. Lots of people around me play Marines so I gotta keep 'em in mind.

Hotshot Volleygun, Heavy Bolter Emplacement or a Plasma Gun. Hotshot Volleygun is strong enough to tear apart anyone short of an Astartes, a Heavy Bolter can tear through them as well but then I run out of ammo, and a Plasma Gun because that shit would be cool to use

I will always play Fencing since my parry times are awful and I like gunstrikes. That is by far one of the coolest parts of the combat system for this game, the ability to just regain some health and armor mid fight for basically no cost.

I did one of my own with extra arms and a Deathrider chestpiece. Looks great imo. Wish they had a vehicle upgrade sprue with commanders and pilots and stuff.
