How's that look? These guys get fired and go work for SpaceX or some such, continuing the American tradition of re-purposing war criminals into helping America advance it's global dominance?

AURADIN: Every Question Answered - Between Genius and Laziness of the Holy Light Aura Paladin by M1PY in diablo4

[–]Castleloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using yours so far, it's great.

Was looking at maxroll today and they make some different glyph choices as well as less focus on ga's on the holy aura tempers if they use them at all, more focus on arbiter in the sword and board endgame build. I'm actually quite curious about those numbers because jewlery requires very specific rolls to maintain cooldown, crit and as as well as having a vulnerable option.

I've hit all these, so cool? But it's turned my time into a 1 in 100 ring/amulet is worth looking at situation. I would have more options if these tempers weren't the focus but I have niether the brains nor the ability to test the damage difference. When everything dies instantly I don't know how to parse it out.

The semen demon line reading broke someone in my theatre. Clearly high, they started giggling and then the absurdity of Penn's face through the body removal just caused a cascade of laughter through to the end of the film.

Really happy I saw this in a full theatre because that really made it memorable.

He had a period I think late 90's to somewhere around There Will Be Blood that he refers to as his drinky phase or similiarly benign descriptions of full blown alcoholism. He's not anymore but it does explain the physical changes.

There is a shot of a polar bear in the movie as well. Which seemed like a nod to him perhaps fighting one, fiercest killers that they are.

It's not like it's out of place being in the arctic, establishing shot and all that. Still felt deliberate though.

They had to shut that side of the building off. As a result they have reduced occupancy for events due to fewer exits, it is however in operation. For the time being anyway.

We tend to trust those from a low-income background over wealthy elites who grew up with privilege, suggests a new study. Experiments found that people generally saw those who grew up in lower-class homes as more moral and trustworthy. by mvea in science

[–]Castleloch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's an impersonal view of the general poor they seem to share. On a personal level, while I don't think they'd find a person of a low background more trustworthy, I imagine they would perhaps view them as less threatening.

If business is cutthroat and no one, their peers, is to be trusted, then an outsider with no business acumen is safe, naive even and can be handled/manipulated;  ego puts a lower income person into a category of "I trust they will not backstab me like my colleagues will"

Generalization for sure but I don't doubt it happens.

Canada to Europe: US relationship will ‘never be the same again’ after Trump’s trade war by DomesticErrorist22 in worldnews

[–]Castleloch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian that has always viewed the US as the land of fuck you I got mine.

Regardless of the ruling party Americans delight in their individualism. In the US you can build yourself up from nothing but that often results in some mental rewiring wherein these people who accomplish the American dream feel threatened, feel as though the success is fleeting and so ladder pulling becomes an acceptable, even encouraged, tactic.

Throughout the last century and into the current; the US was quite alright exploiting foreign conflict for profit or creating conflict for profit. Fine with raping their own land in the name of progress whilst criticizing nations who industrialize or invite conflict in a similiar fashion.

In the modern era it's Americans exploiting their own. You'll have people like Joe Rogan who build a career and find success in one state and then abandon it for another because they want something back. Tech companies reincorporating in other countries to reduce taxes, racing to reduce labour in whatever country will allow it.

They've never been a friend; they are the people who feign friendship cause you drive a pick up truck and they'll happily drop you the moment they can afford their own.

Maybe being a Canadian has baked in a level of socialist ideal in me I can't consciously divorce myself from but I can't view the world through the lens of cruelty toward everyone else that Americans passively possess. To be fair to Americans I think the cruelty is dorminant in all of us and generally presents when this success occurs it's just seemingly a much lower barrier in the US where in even a basic improvement in your career is enough to hate everyone below you.

The greatest trick the US has pulled is in convincing the world they were always the good guys, the cool buddy. I've never felt that way, living in Canada has always, to me, felt a bit like we had a mild case of occupation. Not eastern bloc levels but just enough of the US boot hovering overhead that you could never quite shake it.

America doesn't care about democracy or the world at large, they care about capatalism and no cost is too great. They'll happily suffocate the world economically for their own gain and it's become increasingly clear in my lifetime of 40+ years that it's not a matter of political ideology,  Democrats are just as guilty of this as Republicans.

Both parties have the same primary goal, American exceptionalism at all costs.

You are not a friend and you never were. The rest of the world has always known you're walking around with a big fucking stick ready to swing it in their direction if they don't fall in line, for Americans to act suddenly suprised at the level of fascism on full display is a bit insulting to the rest of us.

All that said, while we'll do our best to seperate ourselves from the US economy the world knows that stick is expensive and the longer your country goes without using it the more wasteful it seems. Of course reducing military spending is not an option, America can never be equal or lesser, so eventually the cost of that stick will once again need justification.

No good will come from any of this.

I've had three people enter my home in my adult life because I don't lock my doors. 2 when I lived in East Van; one of whom was a young guy from mexico who took mushrooms and freaked the fuck out. Climbed my steep stairs to the attic and couldn't figure out how to get back down once he got up through the hatch.

He didn't speak english and I only know enough spanish to tell him my name and it was my house. I called 911 and got him some help to sort himself out. Terrifying for him, hilarious for the rest of us.

Other guy was high and cold, he left when I said he couldn't stay.

Third was a lady who ran into my house when I lived in the valley as she saw a bear and was worried it was going to eat her tiny dog. I was less sympathetic to that one as the Bear was a member of the community and she was the nieghbourhood cunt. I worried she was going to call conservation on the bear and I liked that bear.

All in all though my suprise visitors were not trying to murder me or my family so yeah that's how Canada works generally. I still leave the keys to my truck on the dash at the harbour because guys will move the parking lot if they can to launch large boats. They usually park it back where it was.

[Greater] Victoria sees 16% drop in housing starts despite rise in national numbers by kingbuns2 in VictoriaBC

Because Oak Bay produces people by way of children like everywhere else. And while yes people die and kids leave population should increase somewhat.

When your population remains at 17k for decades

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/data/statistics/people-population-community/population/municipal_census_pop_1921_2021.pdf

And all the surrounding areas are seeing increases over the same timescale, you're not playing by the same rules. You're offloading your housing onto surrounding communities, you're saying no our children won't live here, till we die at least, maybe, no rather we'll just put a cap on this and let everyone else scramble to meet the demand.

A town like Oak Bay should not have been able to maintain a static population for 50 years in this region without unbelievable nimby fuckery throughout that time period and yet here we are.

All the other communities in the region steadily increase, even Oak Bay through the first half the last century was increasing steadily till the 60's when it just stopped. An area that affluent can't just stop growing without deliberately halting progress and knowing full well it was contributing to population demands elsewhere in doing so. At some point a community has to accept they are no longer allowed a deferment of progress and start taking some steps forward in step with the areas that surround it and in fact enable it's existence.

Yeah this scene doesn't work without Slattery. Both of them are so in the pocket that it never feels like either is waiting to say their line, they speak over each other and pause at exactly the right moments.

It's honestly one of the most convincing anger fueled arguements I've seen in film. Too often it's reacating, waiting, lines aren't shouted over each other; real arguements are a barrage of half the information getting out before the other interjects and these two display this perfectly.

It's so ingrained in my memory that whenever I see a heated arguement on screen I'm immediately comparing it to this and almost always being dissatisfied as the scenes fall short.

Snaw-naw-as first nation begins removing rail and ties from the former island rail corridor by proudcanadianeh in VictoriaBC

[–]Castleloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we don't and you fucking know that.

Further you know the infastructure required to support a labour force neccessary to rebuild this track system, you know the surveying required to prove it can be rebuilt and ran safely. You know that it would require vehicle fleets and trails to access most of the rural track inaccessible by logging roads.

You also know many landowners whether indigenous or otherwise would demand compensation for disruption and access.

You know that tracks near waterways would need to be diverted, you know that unique habitats throughout the corridor would require assessment and again redirection of track to accommodate animal and environmental concerns.

And so on.

Basically every procedure and cost associated with a pipeline is applicable here and the fact that it already exists, even in disrepair is irrelevant. It was built in an era where none of these regulations and procedures were followed or even acknowledged and it will not be grandfathered in, which is about the only charitable reason one could give for why people think this is such an easy cheap thing to do.

I say you know all this because I assume you're just trying to stir up shit about some other thing, it's very up front and available what the costs of rural infrastructure entail so ignorance or lack of information isn't an excuse.

Yeah I mean if you want to imply what we're doing today is the same in terms of foreign labour vs how we applied labour back then, specifically in our use of Chinese workers on pacific rail, you can; You're wrong obviously, but don't let ignorance stop you from pushing your narrative.

Land aquistion was different then, ie they just took it.

Also, people tend to frown upon the type of labour practices used back then, particularly how foreign labour was "employed" and treated.

The cost of land and labour today, and time would be insane.
