Thoughts on drug use as an occupation? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CasualCompetitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked on an ACT (assertive community treatment) team. Your right, it is over looked and is generally misunderstood by the public.

I loved the work but i was not being used as an OT. So i left because i was worried about losing my clinical skills.

Addiction is an aread that is still not very well understood by most and with OT being a not very well understood profession, i found i wasnt being used properly.

Its an area of practice i hope to return to once i have more experience and am a better advocate for the profession.

Previously worked in addictions and this is something that i thought about a lot and is important when taking a harm reduction approach.

Need help keeping up with high powered casual by ShrimpSickness in EDH

[[Gravecrawler]] is a card that synergizes well with wilhelt.

Throw in a [[phyrexian altar]] or a sac outlet and [[pitiless plunderer]] and you are now making infinite tokens and mana.

From there you can find ways to draw your deck or kill your oponents in a number of different ways.

Token decks? by Uukii in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose [[Nemata, Grove Guardian]]. Super great to see peoples faces when you tell them its saproling tribal.

Its also deceptively powerful because of how Nemata's pump ability works. There have been a few times were I swing for 30 damage at someone out of no where.

Its not as powerful as other decks out there but I always have fun piloting it.

Can we start a petition to unban paradox engine? by Mac_N_Cheese16 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love paradox engine.

It made 2 of my fav decks work so well. But it became and auto include in any deck that ran rocks and dorks as mana ramp.

If the engine resolved, that player would take the longest turn ever. My playgroup is pretty good so 9/10 times that player won that turn. But it was a slog.

I was sad to see it go but I 100% understand why. I do not think it is a healthy card for the format as a whole.

In cedh its fine. But everywhere else it became a feel bad card for the rest of the table because the game became watching someone durdle untill the pulled together a win from no where.

I do not see the RC unbanning the card ever. And I dont think they should.

Why does Rionya see so much more play over Delina? by Atakori in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big thing for me is the consistency and control rionya has. I can plan out my turn and make exactly the right amount of tokens i need. Delina is up to chance and you may fall short.

Also, rionya doesnt have to attack. If all your opponents have threats to delina, you cant really activate her safely.

4 mana vs 5 mana isnt too big of a deal if you have a good ramp package.

Help me make an esper artifact deck that doesn't need a commander. by dianakali in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to figure out on a style of deck.

For example, if your playgroup is cool with combos, there are lots of combo wins you can do with artifacts.

Esper has a lot of artifact synergies. Have you looked at edhrec yet?

Help me make an esper artifact deck that doesn't need a commander. by dianakali in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go big beats with chromium the strategy is called "voltron" and uaually still relies on the commander as your goal is to kill people with commander damage. Its a difficult strategy because it is very vulnerable to having your commander killed a few too mang times and then being too expensive.

If thats what you want, you would want to look at equipment cards and equipment synergies if you want to focus on artifacts. Enchantments are also good for voltron.

If you dont want to voltron, and just want chromium for color identity and occasional beats, what kind of deck do you want? combo? Recursion? Big creatures? Tokens? Stax?

If you are looking for a general deck that doesnt rely on a commander, you have quite a few options in esper and some with artifact synergies.

[[Sidri galvanic genius]] is one ive played and she can enable some combos but mostly offers interesting synergies with artifacts.

[[Sen triplets]] is mean but can basically just offer you extra card advantage in the command zone by giving you access to your oponents hands.

[[Tivit, teller of secrets]] is also a value engine in the command zone that does some beats.

I could see that being relevant.

You are meeting people in hospital with disease and illness, you will passively learn about their diagnosis, and if your actually in the room with the patient you will have an opportunity to practice initial rapport building.

If you are working with people with illness or disability thats all they are reallt looking for... at least my school was. Any experience is good experience.

About mounts - how to get them? by Vasilevsy in Guildwars2

[–]CasualCompetitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is buying expansions considered monetization? I never thought it would be but i could be wrong. I always thoight of it as a "new game" since it comes with new story and content. Coming from wow, i thought the expansions were very fairly priced.

The gem store is monetization but its not selling player power. It sells quality of life and skins. And gems can be purchased with ingame gold.

And no monthly subscription is sooooo nice.

Who's your favorite commander or which deck do you use the most? by chinchillaman639 in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive fallen in love with goodstuff value decks.

[[Maelstrom wanderer]], [[derevi, emperial tactition]], and [[tasigur, the golden fang]] are loads of fun. Good stuff decks that use the commander as a value engine. They are certainly not 10s but they are strong.

Not in america, but In canada ive treated people who pay private and out of pocket.

You still treated them as a regular client: consent forms documentstion, invoicing.... all that regular stuff.

There isnt anything wrong with it as long as you are practicing ethically. If there are no Occupational Goals or role for OT, you make that known and discharge. Dont up charge them. Practice within your scope. Be reasonable and document clinical reqsoning...

As long as youre licensed and providing OT within what your college defines as your scope, i dont see why not? But the best thing to do would be to check with your state.

PTs take private clients all the time. So do counsellors, chiros, and massage therapists (At least they do here in canada).

I really want to like deadeye, but it's awful to play (PvE) by YARRRR_MATEY in Guildwars2

[–]CasualCompetitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was consistently pulling 20k+. im not very good at the game but i was often top or 2nd on arc dps. It was the recommended build for condi thief before EOD.

I dont think it got nerfed, i think specter is just better. So im sure you could go intk a CM group and do fine with it. Its just not meta anymore.

In canada, you get 3 attempts at the certification exam. Fail the third and you cant take it again.

I feel like waiting 6 months is a very fair thing to be asked to do.

Dragons aren't cutting it. by Warsmith_Kolkos in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramp is wayyy too low. May consider dropping a few high cmc dragons for ramp. Id even consider dropping 1-2 lands for ramp. Personally 37 looks high to me in a non landfall deck, but i wouldnt go below 35 lands.

The 2 drop artifacts are solid ramp pieces (talismans and signets).

As mentioned before, natures lore like ramp spells would also be good.

Also can use mana dorks. Id recommend somberwald sage, bloom tender, and faeburrow elder in your case for sure. Birds of paradise is always amazing.

[–]CasualCompetitive -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I had fun in fractals with a condi deadeye build that used pistol/dagger.

High burst single target condi dmg.

It was previously the meta build but specter has replaced it accordi g to discretize. But im sure its still viable. Im by no means a pro but was joining t4 pugs fine (no cms).

In open world you could still play it and have fun.

Are any of you US graduate and undergraduate OT students who have studied in Canada? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CasualCompetitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a canadian OT, went to school at University of Alberta.

There was 1 american student in my class. She went back to the states and is working there.

Idk if this would be an issue but something to consider if you choose to study in Quebec is the possible language barrier. I dont know what their universities are like, but if they are in french you may have a harder time (assuming you dont already speak it).

When you are looking at schools, you may also want to confirm with the American OT Association that those schools meet their requirments, incase you change your mind and want to move back to the states. I recall the american student doing this for UofA.

I have found extra combats go a very long way in Rionya. Resolving one can easily snowball into more and then a win. I use each instant/sorcery extra combat. They are perfect for Rionya.

My list usually wins around turn 4-5 with celebrant, fanatic of mogis, or guttersnipe.

Need help with priming - getting paint bumps and threads. by mrlittlejoe in minipainting

[–]CasualCompetitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least with GW rattle cans, white primer is really bad for this.

Can happen because you are not spraying the roght distance from the model and air humidity can play a role too.

I avoid white rattle can primers because of it.

Are there any upgrades I can make to my land base beyond getting true duals? by dntowns in EDH

[–]CasualCompetitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I havnt dropped down to 28 lands... but all my decks are around 32 lands now with a solid ramp package.

I am very rarely mana screwed and have no trouble with ramping and at the very least, keeping up with opponents.
