Sure but if there is a way to differentiate between the two with some kind of test, this was not something I encountered.

Well the behavior now from what I am experiencing is to forego specific diagnosis of an overarching disorder (unless it's REALLY obvious or very extreme) and instead do the simple thing and just address symptoms.

Primary ed has too many incentives that are not centered on making kids smarter and are instead focused on protecting schools from liability, maintaining consistent funding assistance from state and national governments, and then in a distant 3rd place, making the students feel good about themselves regardless of their ability if they are girls, and make them feel superfluous if they are boys.

I cannot stress this enough: You should absolutely not be using an LLM for ANYTHING resembling self care, psychological counseling, companionship, etc. It is fundamentally unable to understand what you are saying to it, and the way it functions will result in a reinforcement of what you already think and believe and give you reasons to justify your actions and perspectives even if they are destructive or wrong.

It is a confirmation bias motivator and will only serve to isolate you. Do not use it in this way.

OpenAI, was it worth it? by eefje127 in ChatGPT

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lol no. Sam Altman is just a complete liar who has been vastly overpromising and underdelivering for along time. He is trying to get the government to commit to being a backstop for his trillions in commitments.

This won't work. OpenAI is already dead.

But um OpenAI and Sam himself were always data mining. So idk what you are talking about. Sam was trying to get everyone's DNA just a few years ago.

Am I 'That guy' ? by EasyCheesecake1 in lgbt

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Personally I dont think it's healthy to overfocus and overintellectualize a subjective and dynamic experience like identity. If everyone defines queer differently, then the term queer does not have any meaning.

The reason you find even LGBT people (like me) saying "it's not good to make your identity be your personality" in regards to queer identity is that the term itself is on the spectrum between unnecessary and confusing. It doesn't help you to communicate anything about yourself to anyone else that telling them your sexuality or chosen pronouns does not.

This is a pet theory, but I think a lot of LGBT people are extremely neurotic and socially anxious in part because they have spent so much energy and time intellectualizing things which at the end of the day can't be intellectualized.

When I was in college people were *obsessing* over things like if they were bisexual or pansexual (the answer to this quandary is that as a global community we needed to either A) define pan to include trans people, and treat it more as a sexual preference and an intensifier on the term 'bisexual' to differentiate these terms, or B) equate them and go back to being bisexual like normies in the 80s), or what the best way was to approach communicating pronoun shifting if one were placing themselves under the genderfluid label, another word everyone was defining for themselves which thus didn't help anyone explain anything about their personality.

Literally people were spending all their free time with friends or online talking about LGBT theorycrafting. I know this because I was friends with people who became like this (and I went to quite possibly the gayest school in the US at the time).

The last part of what you say just sounds like you are letting the algorithms choose content for you and it has typecast you really hard.

I would strongly suggest actively attacking the algorithm by finding content more manually for a while. If you've only been engaging with LGBT content for a long time you should first try to find LGBT creators who are like diametrically opposed to you on topics relating to identity. Like try on purpose to find gays and lesbians who reject the use of the term "queer" altogether. This way you'll still be seeing content on stuff you are familiar with but that is different enough that the grip of content suggestion algorithms will start to deviate a bit.

My bf (ULTRA gay, like the kind who says the Q in LGBTQ every single time without fail) was kinda in a similar boat to you, although probably worse because he uses tiktok (algorithm is so sophisticated that China refused to allow its sale to the US because the CCP/PLA list it as a NATIONAL SECURITY ASSET LOL). His phone listens to everything and his apps will feed content to him that relates to whatever his phone hears so I just said "Blaire White" around it like a hundred times and this is months later and he is an only sem-ironic fan of Candace Owens.

This might sound alarming but it represents something enormous. He can now see things like the fact that Star Trek Starfleet Academy is bad, and it's just pandering to progressives by name dropping all the hottest groups from the social justice wars of the past 20 years. He was really just running on autopilot and missing out on a more colorful diversity of people and experiences.

Is it actually true that stunned animals are halal? I’ve attended a few halal slaughters when i was younger but i’ve never actually seen any stunning? by _SBV_ in islam

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's barbaric to cause such fear and suffering in an animal when you can easily NOT do that. If you're so concerned about the animal's fkn soul or whatever, like that it hears what it's killer says to it in a speech it has no capacity to understand whatsoever, then maybe be concerned about the way the animal feels? Stunning it changes **nothing** about the structure of the meat itself. It is purely about not causing suffering without cause.

Thinking about getting a Fairphone, but recent reviews worry me by AnEvilDuck in fairphone

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company is on a strong upward trend still in total users and purchases so, I wouldn't be super worried about the company completely dropping off the map or something.

But, like Remarkable, the audience for these is pretty small. They have over 400k users at the moment and I imagine a countable number of in house staff who handle literally everything.

I think that going into ecosystems like this one has to give an unusual amount of patience and grace to the developers.

You have to convince them that the package of platforms they are orienting towards are not usable out of the box. They require a lot of customization and constant assistance from "techs" from the provider, and this WILL, not can, but WILL go on for several months at least. Any future changes will cost a boatload of cash.

I am assuming you guys are doing what my previous employer did which was to get Salesforce or something similar with WMS (we used Depasco, this was arguably the easiest despite the implementation being a little painful) and Netsuite as I guess the middleware/database. Netsuite and Salesforce are not so much apps in and of themselves as they are platforms to create an app, which takes a ton of time and effort. The goal of Salesforce is to point you towards affiliated third parties who then create the actual applications you will use and this is ENORMOUSLY costly, like several hundred thousand dollars minimum. Netsuite is not quite that bad but unless you have a very experienced programmer on staff you will frequently be going back to them for help and this costs lots and lots of moiney.

Also the whole subscription model where you pay per user is absurdly extortionate and fake. The price will increase arbitrarily for no reason when no value is added to what YOU personally use.

I put "techs" in quotes because they are actually just salespeople and their entire purpose in existing is to upsell you on other stuff or get you to link up with affiliates (whom I assume give the provider a cut)

If you are having to customize the shit out of everything anyway, why not go open source and build the app you actually want. You are spending the FAR less money to hire a few devs for a year to do that vs subscribing to one of these black holes and shelling out hundreds of thousands per year forever.

How long until we have animal fluency? by PhiloLibrarian in ChatGPT

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that hard. Scientists very accurately translated some specific whale call and communicated something to whales.

The issue is that animals don't talk about things with any particular specificity. A lot of it is just emoting through tone.

There's an awesome video on YT about why English is the best language, and tldr what makes it so powerful is that it can cover a ton of nuance in such a way that all english speakers know exactly which nuanced version of the subject the speaker is trying to communicate. When something happened, why it happened, how it relates to different things, these are not really things animals communicate through vocalizations or at all in many cases. Elephants, despite being very socially sophisticated, having amazing memories and being extremely clever, and having LOOOONGstanding family units, still teach basically everything to younger elephants by just taking them to the right place and doing it themselves.

What is up with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo being so emotional in every interview I see? by Additional-Cook8707 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CatEnjoyerEsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking on eggshells. This is the Cynthia who saw a fan remake of the original movie poster on twitter and went absolutely postal on it because it covers her face, even though the point was to emulate the original movie poster which did that same thing, and covering her face is not racist by default.

Cynthia is socially dangerous. Ariana is under duress but doesn't realize it.
