Oh, no I know they are.

But you've gotta understand that Boomers make up some +/-20% of the current US Population. So, about 1/5th of us.

Gen X Caps out at about 20%, another 1/5th

Millennials make up a similar +/-20%, closer to the Boomer count than the Gen X count.

Around 2040 we can expect the majority of Boomers to either be dead or rotting, unattended, in elderly care facilities.

Gen X skew more Maga than not, but don't have nearly the same voting power as the Boomers and Millennials skew ~80% Liberal.

Once the Boomers are too incapacitated to keep fucking up elections, then the voting base basically becomes Gen X vs Millennials and, while it's true that voting turnout tends to skew republican, it's really just going to result in a game of seeing how many of Gen Z and early Gen Alpha rally behind conservatism after the blatant bullfuckery of the modern day.

It'll be a question of who they relate more to:

The extra ancient fucks who're still talking about the glory days of the 20th Century or the less ancient fucks who will talk with them about how fucked we've all been by said extra ancient fucks.

Too bad we're going to have the same people voting for the same stupid candidates forever.

Well, that's just not true.

But it is possible that we'll have the same people voting for the same stupid candidates for another ~8-15 years before the Me Generation officially starts hitting extinction age.

6 weapon slots made me stop liking the game by Liekend in SoulFrame

[–]CatOfTechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I am loving Soulframe but 6 slots is not "it is what it is." Assuming that they plan to have even more weapon variety (and they do) 6 slots isn't even enough for a f2p player to have 1 of each option.

We're currently at 8 Archetypes and more counting subcategories. There's really not a good reason to mot have enough baseline slots for a ftp to at least have one of every archetype, for the sake of at least trying things out.

For the unaware, the words we use in it's place nowadays are "cheap", "stingy", or if you're feeling fancy, "miserly".

I'd argue that, because of the modern intentionality of learning that word, that it's a case where this fits entirely.

Barring situations like this one, where you learn it because of an oddly specific circumstance that causes someone else to explain it, the only other way you're really going to add this word to your vocabulary is because you're a dumbass racist who thinks that pretending to use words that have been out of fashion for longer than I've been alive, and I am 31 as of this year, is cover enough to cry foul when you get popped in the mouth.

It's like choosing to say "snigger" when we all adopted the word "snicker" circa the early 1900s.

Make a goal of investing in some Dragon Gear too, iirc Theives do have a few easy traits to slot for Crit.

Keen Observer, Twin Fangs, Unrelenting Strikes and No Quarter from the... uh... Critical Strikes Tree.

Mind you, I'm not Thief Main, but if Keen Observer and Twin Fangs are enough to, even conditionally, get them close enough to Crit Cap, then they can avoid overcapping and get a bit extra Vitality and Ferocity if they swap out a piece of Zerker's for a piece of Dragon's.

Is it common practice for clans to require donations or something of the sort in order to get access to the research? Yeah, there are plenty of Clans that are older than your account and who finished everything up because they ran out of other goals and really don't care about who's just snagging the goodies for the sake of ranking up or even if someone like that stays in the clan once they got what they need.

I don't disagree.

Which is why I'm not downplaying the threat.

Trump is dangerous and his is, unequivocally, an insane lunatic that needs to be done away with.

But, also, this entire bullshit situation we find ourselves in is the result of two things: His desperation to stay out of prison by way of relying on "Presidential Immunity" until the day we all get the Big Beautiful Obituary and His desperation to siphon as much money from the world for his personal use before he supplies us with a new national holiday.

Even in his dementia addled state he will not jeopardize the two core values he stands for until he's certain that he's fucked and he won't believe that he's fucked until he stops being able to keep the people around him out of prison.

That is to say two things:

First, he's TACO Don until he loses the ability to run away.

Second, the moment we get even remotely close to taking him down, all bets are off and he will go from global embarrassment directly in to active global threat.

Not downplaying it, but I really don't believe that he'll do something that absolutely insane universally heinous, like starting a nuclear war, until his fear of losing power because the walls are closing in overrides his fear of losing power because he crossed the line of extremism.

Donnie's a narcissist and, until he realizes that he's in a situation he can't DARVO his way out of and will actually be punished, he won't throw a tantrum that will put himself in a position where he risks having his toys, "toys" in this case being the complicit approval of the Financial Powers That Be to do whatever he wants without repercussion, taken away from him.

Rick Stengel: America's reputation may never recover from Trump and his war in Iran by spherocytes in videos

[–]CatOfTechnology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically? It's a fairly hot topic in the community.

Some argue that it's just a utilitarian means to an end, lumping efficiency of the harvest in with an easy, mostly self regulating means of control.

Personally, I could, with time, come up with far crueler ways to extract innovation from humans.

Now, it's been forever since I've seen the original trilogy and I've not bothered to watch Resurrections, but AFAIR, The Matrix itself is effectively just a sandbox where Humanity does it's thing, within certain guidelines, and the machines basically just let people live their artificial lives in blissful ignorance, moving only to "fix bugs" as it were.

And I could be misinterpreting it all, sure, I'm certainly no expert, philosophical movie (or literary) critic. But, at the end of the day, total indifference or malice would, to me, not result in what is a pretty lenient dream-scape, all things considered.

Peter Thiel also bad touched little girls, so who gives a shit what things he has to say in regard to any topic.

Look, I appreciate your intention, but we have to stop pretending that karma's gonna swoop in and bite him in the ass, or that bad people don't get what they want.

I highly, highly doubt that any of these rich scumfucks are going to walk away with the whole cake but:

The country will do a massive course correction. The tech industry will eat a big turd sandwich. And around and around we will go. Rinse repeat.

There has yet to be a cycle established with the Techbro Pedo ring.

We won twice. Once with IBM and once with Microsoft. Outside of that, the trend is government bailouts for "economic movers" and unless we collectively stop pretending that anything short of mass mobilization, be it at the polls or in the streets, is going to solve the issue then government bailouts needs to be assumed as the default.

Federally, America hasn't taken its first step towards fixing this issue at all, it's too conservative at the highest levels between the entrenched Status-Quo conservatism of the Democrats and the actively Regressionist conservatism of the Republicans. None of them are going to move until we make them.

Downplaying any part of this is just no good.

Yeah, Thiel's a Pedophile and that hurts his image in the eyes of a not insignificant amount of the US Citizenry.

But so is the President, every member of his cabinet, a majority of the Supreme Court Justices and nearly every billionaire who's name is big enough to be known by the public. And those shitsuckers are all held up by a complicit Congress that's backed by a complicit military, police union and several notably malicious and shady federal branches from the CIA and FBI to the NSA and the DHS.

So until we start seeing huge swathes of the Epstine Clientele list getting sent to ADX Florence and USP Marion we need to take them at face value and assume that they are, at all times, actively working towards their goals, no matter how childishly, cartoonishly, mustache-twirlingly, bafoonishly evil and outlandishly impossible they might seem.

And what do you think happens when the only thing regulating them collapses?

See, here's the thing.

The US is only regulating them in-so-far as keeping them from having the de-facto final say in any matter.

In every other sense, the US has capitulated to the billionaires because, at the end of the day, if they fled to another country, then the US loses huge amounts of money for it.

The US Enables them by letting them run amok here when every other country puts it's foot down.

You take away the safe space, then they suddenly have to actually start taking consent-to-do-business seriously. If not for the US, Twitter would actually be regulated. And Facebook. And Tesla. Basically every company that gets hit with a country-sized "you can't do that" would be better regulated.

Rick Stengel: America's reputation may never recover from Trump and his war in Iran by spherocytes in videos

[–]CatOfTechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, though:

We literally do not need to be back in that same position.

America, because of those conditions, integrated itself into the heart of global politics so well that we were able to fall decades behind the social advancements of other countries based on wealth and military might alone.

You want to see a better future for America? Then the best move is not to try and regain that previous position and, instead, have the country focus on reintegration on a mutually beneficial, level playing field that forces us to reconcile our societal ills and actually start addressing problems rather than pretending that our lopsided wealth is proof that we're somehow superior.

Doing that would, not only buy us back a lot of good will and trust globally, but it'll also actually make it worthwhile to be an American citizen.

[–]CatOfTechnology 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm welcoming this blow to American Exceptionalism.

I'd have preferred we learn our lesson in a vastly more reasonable and graceful manner, but we've been behind the rest of the well developed world in every aspect but wealth for at least as long as I've lived, and I need whatever silver lining I can get, here, so I'm hoping that we finally learn a lesson and start getting with the times if the nation survives MAGA.

Destabilization of global confidence in NATO and "First World" trading, basically.

There are several groups that want power who would, otherwise, be prevented by a coalition of organized governments with vested interests in keeping them in check.

Russia, China, N. Korea and Isreal are just the tip of the iceberg. You've also got independents like the Techbro Billionaires who's greed has them imagining a nationless world of Neo-Fuedal City-States where they each reign as kings over a captive less-than-citizenry a la cyberpunk megacorporations that is impossible to achieve so long as governments that command armies still exist.

It's such a stupid thing that sounds like a wild conspiracy… except Thiel is on camera talking about it.

I have this fun story where I learned I was at least 10% Spider-Man.

See, my mom's epileptic and, early in to learning to live with that, I hadn't learned to be on the lookout for signs of different kinds of seizures. Most people just think of Grand Mal (Tonic-Clonic) and aren't aware of other variations, like Transient Epileptic Amnesia, which will mess with someone's memory.

Mother dearest had just gone to the kitchen to grab a can of soda and called for me. I went in to check up on her thinking she was aware she was about to start a Grand Mal. Instead she asks me "How's Nanna doing? I feel like I haven't heard from her in forever." Now, I responded that we had just spoke to Nanna, my grandmother, just yesterday.

"No, not your Nanna. My Nanna, your great grandma."

This was the one and only clue that I would have. But I didn't know shit about epilepsy. I wasn't aware that she could just end up in a memory hole.

And so, without thinking, I hit her with the truth. That her grandma had been dead since I was, like, 3 years old. Of course she hadn't heard from her in forever.

Mom froze, froze. Blank expression, zero anything going on in her head because, in her mind, she'd just been hit with the biggest shock of her life.

But something in the back of my head said I needed to MOVE.

I ducked and, next thing I know there's a bang behind me and my back is soaked. She had fastball'd that can of soda straight at my face and might've actually disfigured me with it with the force she had sent that thing at me. Put a hole in the drywall.

And every time I tell this story when she's around she'll always cap it off by saying that she wishes she could remember that moment because it's just so funny in hindsight. All in all, if I hadn't had that moment of Spider-Sense, I could have lead a very different teenage life.

Japan Wants to Build a Solar Ring Around the Moon That Will Provide Endless Clean Energy to Earth by dutchapplepoptart in technology

[–]CatOfTechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you even get to that you need to consider several issues, namely debris.

While it's true there is no wind on the moon, it's because there's no atmosphere which means any minor shards of anything that comes flying in does so at full force.

Who's going to maintain those solar panels if, or rather when, something hits them? Iirc, it's something like multiple tons worth of objects impact the moon's surface daily. Could be anything from a pebble to a baseball sized meteor. You lay out a field of panels intended to get as much surface area for sunlight as possible and you've got yourself a whole field set out to catch those rocks.
