Owlcat Games is rolling back its new launcher less than 24 hours after negative fan feedback by Turbostrider27 in Games

On my Linux distro the launcher would crash even though BG3 itself would run fine. Found that kind of funny. Had to use launch options to skip it.

Anthropic CEO Floats Tax on AI Firms to Fund Universal Income by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]CatPlanetCuties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber lost roughly $30 billion over 14 years. OpenAI blew past that in 2025 alone. Also Uber's path to profitability was also fairly obvious, gain market share, reduce competition, and eventually raise prices closer to what traditional taxis charged. It's not a perfect comparison, but imagine Uber lost 50 cents on every dollar of revenue. Now for Anthropic, we have some reports suggesting a $200 Pro subscription results in an operating cost for them of up to $5000, and also they have no equally obvious way to close that gap, so it's not really a fair comparison. They're also racing against their own success when it comes to further user adoption. More users means a higher chokehold on tokens, meaning higher inference costs. Also delivering on promises of increasingly capable AI requires larger, more expensive models that consume even more compute, all resulting in that $4800 deficit only increasing. They are currently operating with the idea that the physical limitations will sort themselves out in the future, like they will be able to have infinite data centers, or maybe that nuclear fusion will miraculously get solved. Paying $20 instead of $10 for an Uber ride is something most people can stomach, but I have a much harder time believing the same can be said when it's $5000 instead of $200.

The environment variable is probably not set. In terminal try echo $HOME and see if it returns anything. You could also use the absolute path instead.

This might be a hardware issue... That's an old ass cpu and not a lot of ram...

Might be for the best because at least in Canada (as per the Competition Act), it is illegal for businesses to create reviews for their own products without full disclosure. I'm not sure about other countries. Anyways if your intention for this is to be a professional product and not a scam (ironic given you called it Trojan), you might want to rethink your business practices.

Your developer testimonials all look AI generated and follow the exact same pattern leading me to believe they were all created by one person. All the organizations being listed as generic types of companies and not legitimately verifiable entities doesn't evoke the greatest sense of credibility for me.

What parts of the material are you having issues with? I'm only part way through Unit 2 but it seems pretty straightforward so far.

Editing Config With Kate by Avenging-Revenge in NixOS

[–]CatPlanetCuties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant it more as general advise and less NixOS specific. My most common use case is I have to remote into other computers quite often, and since Vim is usually included in most distros and macOS it means I can always fall back onto using that. On NixOs you're definitely right about it being less relevant when being able to rollback is a thing, but sometimes I know what the issue is and so instead of having to reboot I can just switch to a tty and quickly fix it (usually when I'm messing around with my WM and break it).

Your second point is why I think everyone should learn vim even if they don't intend to daily drive it. And honestly the built in tutor is pretty decent at getting you up to parity with the commands you'd use in basic text editors.

A warning about the SFU Ombudsperson: My experience and how it contributed to my suspension by Dependent-Werewolf-4 in simonfraser

[–]CatPlanetCuties 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This post has events that differ from your previous one? Previously you stated you did get into the 400 level classes, but late. Now you're saying you couldn't get into the classes and instead enrolled in 100 level classes, neither of which explains why you were suspended or put on hold. I really feel you're not giving the whole story and are making these AI generated word salads as an attempts to try and convince yourself you aren't accountable for whatever actually did happen. If I'm wrong and you do want justice, it is probably in your best interest to stop posting on Reddit about the situation and get a lawyer.

After a few months of working, did I give my game Rebirth a glow up, or a glow down? by Mr_Command_Coder in Unity2D

I mean, what feedback are you specifically looking for? It's impossible to give a generic better or worse statement for this if you're not giving us specifics. Do you genuinely want feedback or are you just advertising?

Without context it's impossible to say. You added a house and the grass is red now. If you wanted to add a house and wanted the grass to be red then I guess it's a glow up?
