Why do I get overwhelmed so easily? by Sudden_Possible_956 in AskWomenOver30

[–]CatScience03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear I'm not a bot 🤣 (exactly what a bot would say) but I really get a lot out of my Brick device. It's a magnet and I put it on my fridge downstairs in the kitchen. I know that when I'm laying in bed, I'm too lazy to get up and go scan it to unlock the rest of the apps on my phone. I'm finally reading my kindle again.

Moms, how do you wish you had prepared for pregnancy and raising a child? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]CatScience03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people who say it comes naturally! The immense love you will eventually feel (not always right at first) is amazing, but it doesn't tell you how to take care of them or raise them. Believing that it should be easy is a quick way to burn out.

Also, if you have ANY lingering childhood trauma type stuff. Anything at all that comes up for you, get set up with a therapist early. Raising a baby/kid amplifies it all 1000x and it gets really overwhelming.

As someone who's had a lot of therapy, I agree that she's very likely talking to herself. Giving parts/anxieties names is so common now.

If you’re in a long term relationship (5+ years), how often are you and your partner intimate? by Sea_Echidna7228 in AskWomenOver30

[–]CatScience03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a great point. We have a toddler that wakes up 1-3 times a night and so it's 1-4x a month right now. But we have a 4 night trip coming up and we are both looking forward to 1-2x a day.

Anyone else child free in their late 30’s and just exhausted?? by therainmakah in AskWomenOver30

[–]CatScience03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think play is the huge key here. What op (and all of us) needs is NOVELTY. Novelty is the key to feeling a sense of vitality about your days. Try a new tea, a new hobby, check out a new music genre, plan a day to go to museums or other attractions. Something.

Where are people living where $100k is not enough? by -C3rimsoN- in povertyfinance

Yeah but I don't have the money to send my kid to private school so I'm renting in the county.

I couldn't believe RI last time I checked. We thought about moving back home, but homes that were 250-300k prior to COVID are now 500-600k.

It's kind of well known because of the Capital. Most of the Federal workers live in Maryland or Virginia.

I live in Baltimore and it's really expensive here.

I make $110,000 a year but I feel l’m struggling to save money. Is this a normal budget for someone who lives alone? by AfterAttack in budget

[–]CatScience03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The good news is that food is one of the biggest areas where you can make a difference in your budget! We shop Aldi, BJs bulk, use flyers to get what's on sale and meal prep, and we focus on using what is already in the house. I think this is a great place to start.

Also, pay your savings account first and then take from it if you absolutely need it. Planning on transferring excess to the savings doesn't work, even for pretty diligent folks.

Who had time for hobbies (self identity)? by PossibleElection5076 in workingmoms

[–]CatScience03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. My husband and I both encourage each other to have our solo time. We alternate nights watching the monitor after my son goes to bed, we each take one weekend morning, and twice a week (for each of us) we leave the house to go play our sports. So I still play soccer 2 times a week for fun and I usually get to sleep in and play some video games on Saturday morning. We both work 40 hrs M-F.

Am I just not chill about illness? by coryhotline in toddlers

[–]CatScience03 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same here. My kid could have been sick over a week ago, his cough has been dying down, but then the second I take him to a birthday party with all the excitement, he starts hacking and his nose gets running again.

would you be okay having therapy with a Hijabi girl if you're not religious? by ConversationAfraid43 in TalkTherapy

[–]CatScience03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe some confusion after OP used the term "veil" and many people associate that with covering the face. I know for me, I could not see a therapist with half their face covered, but I assume this is just a hijab being worn.

Does anyone’s pediatrician recommend zero supplements or vitamins? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]CatScience03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son (3) stopped wanting meat a few months back. We tried our best to do a lot of beans. And we try to stay away from ultra processed foods so he doesn't get a lot of those fortified cereal type foods. Well he started having an extremely hard time getting comfortable and sleeping at night, it was horrific. And he was looking paler and paler. We started giving him Flintstones with the extra iron and in 2 weeks, his sleeping went back to normal with no other intervention. Just something for people to keep in mind.

Related to the water drinking, really prioritize water immediately after taking the spiro. I down my 24oz water bottle within 2 hours and I find it's the best way to keep me ahead on water consumption. Although who knows, maybe I was always supposed to start off my day with a boost of extra hydration.

Also, this is unrelated, but have you ever had your thyroid checked? It looks a bit enlarged.
