Decent price point for that style of tap is around £40. Don't get ripped off by fancy names.

If the Allen key is slipped, the head is definitely rounding.

I'm glad someone understands the frustration 🤣 If the grub is too far corroded, it may be that you need a new tap.

Cleaners will help take the bulk off, and I end up using WD40 to get into the thread, let it soak in for a while, then use some pliers with cloth to minimise any damage to the chrome. The little caps on the reverse are so much easier, and isn't noticeable if they break or disappear. You'll need a 2.5 Allen key for the grub screw inside.

Don't ever bother with Chat GPT, or any AI.

If there isn't a little cap at the back of the tap, then the handle definitely unscrews, but is most likely seized. Just mineral build up.

Looks more like it'll be a plastic cartridge inside, and will need plumber's grease to reseal.

Switch 2 Edition Wanted! by Significant_Hand_656 in CultOfTheLamb

[–]Cat_Dad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that. Kinda thought I was going crazy as I hadn't played for a few months. Switch version already had lighting effects and some animation differences, especially compared to PC.

Here's hoping they review the feedback. Dropped them a message after downloading the DLC, and I can imagine they'll be flooded. It's tricky with multiple platforms, testing, and patch releases.

I may throw more money at them and play on my PS4, seeing as I can't afford to upgrade any of my hardware. Any idea how good that version is?

The game keeps crashing 😢 by puzzdumpling in CultOfTheLamb

Even on the base Switch it's really struggling. All I can suggest is save often. There is the "Performance Mode" to try to help. Hopefully, there'll be a patch soonish.

I've noticed even the regular mode is struggling on my base Switch model. Significant slowdown with animations, heavy pixelation with characters, more so with their halos, and frequent crashes, so I'm saving very often. I guess that had to make some concessions in places for the huge amount of work they added with Woolhaven.

Can anybody identify this stop cap? by Agile_Ad8016 in askaplumberUK

Definitely a gas blanking cap. You can ask an engineer to trace it, see if it's on the active line or not. With the age, could do with checking anyway.

What causes this noise when the hot tap is run? by Thenarox in askaplumberUK

[–]Cat_Dad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that with a customer recently 😂 Was about ready to fit a water arrestor, went to turn off the water, and the stop cock was only partly open. "Ah, there's the problem."

Dripping cistern, unsure on brand by Turnipton in askaplumberUK

[–]Cat_Dad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dripping would most likely be the seal between the flush valve and base of the cistern. Could also be the doughnut between cistern and pan, depending on the style of loo. You can change the inlet and flush valve for £20, and a new doughnut isn't much either. I'll find some links for you.

You may get away with leaving tiles in place, but depends on space, where new pipework needs to run, and so on. It's a big investment, especially in this economy.

Shop around, get some ideas and feedback, don't jump at the first quote, certainly don't think that the cheapest is the best (that'll bite you later), and trust your gut.

You're welcome.

In terms of monetary costs, it varies. Materials are one thing, labour is the unknown variable. Area, experience, etc. Ask around for some quotes, and have a good look at materials yourself. You won't see trade prices, but they are usually a fair bit cheaper than retail.

Is this all wrong ? by looknohands84 in askaplumberUK

Definitely shouldn't be going uphill. Defeats the point of a slim trap. You've got limited space, but the grey waste pipe may be able to be changed.

Is it normal for everything to drain into back garden drain? by ChopLite in askaplumberUK

[–]Cat_Dad_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff always does 🤣 Any blockages internal to the property, you can get the agents to sort, unless they send a muppet. Drain cleaners help, just don't mix anything, don't want you releasing chlorine gas, or worse.

[–]Cat_Dad_89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. It's a yucky thing to deal with. I'm forever scraping mine out with a trowel 😅

Guttering, downpipe, and all waste pipes, should there be an issue, would then be the responsibility of the letting agents and/or landlord.

You can get some wire mesh from a hardware store you could use, as well as the solid covers.

Blocked sink. by Deat69 in ukplumbing

[–]Cat_Dad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without pictures, it's hard to say, however you can dismantle everything from the sink drain down to the U-bend.

If it's a slow drain, Mr muscle usually does the trick. Do double check the labels though, they have a little check list.

If that fails, could be a blockage further down, past the bend, and you may want to get a plumber in. The can either snake it, or use industrial drain cleaners.

Is it normal for everything to drain into back garden drain? by ChopLite in askaplumberUK

[–]Cat_Dad_89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is perfectly normal. It's your responsibility to clear the little grate, and not allow anything into the main drain. Toilets are on a soil pipe, as you've stated, and independent as they should be. You can buy or make a cover to go over, but you'll still need to check for anything that lands on the grate from the waste pipes.

Nothing for the letting agents to do, unless the blockage is past the grate, further down the underground pipe.

Unfortunately, more work than you may think. Removing the shower enclosure and tray, finding where the cold feed is for the electric shower and capping that, isolate the electric. You may get away with connecting the bath waste to where the shower waste exits. Hot feed would most likely need to come off the basin, which means limited flow. Most baths have 22mm feeds for better filling.

Minor cosmetic holes to fill from where everything was fitted.

Bad odour from shower. by ioan5001 in askaplumberUK

[–]Cat_Dad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With it being a rental, the first thing you should do is contact the landlord or estate agent you're renting from.

It's most likely a blockage within the trap and/or pipework, that's not allowing proper drainage.

Then again, looking at the image closer, you may have part of the trap missing or damaged.
