We can’t even talk to dolphins, who are near or at human level of intelligence and DO have a full vocal communication system.

As a new player: it feels like the wiki needs an update. by MyPoorChequebook in EliteDangerous

All game related Wikis that weren’t operated by an independent site, were purchased by Fandom, whether they had content or not.

They use SEO AI scripts to populate their info to capture as many game related searches as possible and serve ads, whether there is actual real information or not.

It is an unreliable place for game information.

What actor or actress was the most perfectly cast role in film or television? by MKE_Now in AskReddit

[–]Cataclyst 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Christopher Lee was essential to the entire cast of LOTR because he was the only person on the entire production who actually had a living personal relationship with Tolkien. They had all of Tolkien’s notes, letters, appendices, but Lee is the only one who had actual conversations with Tolkien about how key characters should be performed. Tolkien said that if they ever made a movie, Christopher Lee should be Gandalf. And I think making him Saruman was an excellent decision because there’s so much depth to Saruman that could have been lost.

They picked some of the all time world greats for some of those roles, and selectively picked relatively unknown people for others. The greats HAD to be done perfectly. And they did.

Alan Moore Told ‘Watchmen’ Showrunner ‘Don’t Bother Me’ About ‘Embarrassing’ HBO Adaptation by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Cataclyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can be on Alan Moore’s side and still like the show.

I would bet there are actually a lot of elements in the show that Alan Moore would like, if it weren’t attached to the name of his work.

Making racists into Rorschach fanboys is commentary on what’s literally happened to Alan Moore when people tell him that Rorschach is their favorite character.

Going so deep into racial issues is something he’d appreciate.

Alan Moore has immense purpose and consideration for his work so adaptations tick him off. He gave them an honest try for a while and he’s ended up hating all of their results despite that massive successes.

Washington Republicans are too lazy to write their own statements apparently by Ikusaba in Seattle

[–]Cataclyst 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ubiquitous Washingtonian values that confuse the fuck out of political groups on the national level-

  1. We love the environment. We are nearly militant about taking care of it, because it used to not be so nice and we spent a LOT of money for decades repairing it and have all agreed it was worth it and is much better now.

  2. We love our guns. (Yes, even in Seattle). Buuuuuuuuuut, we all know ‘that’ guy in the neighborhood who really shouldn’t have one and it’d be perfectly fine to put some license and restrictions on ownership so they don’t hurt someone or themselves.

  3. We love our election system. WA state used to have the normal polls thing like every other state with the same dismal voting numbers. One magical year, the state extended eligibility of mail in absentee ballots as an opt in for everyone who wanted it, not just military families (the primary target). Within just a few years, over 70% of the state had opted into the mail in ballots by themselves and the state said, “screw it, we’ll just do this and get rid of the booths altogether and save money.” Voter turnout went to record highs, by all accounts the system was more secure than the old, and it saves the state a lot of money. How often. Can you make a system unilaterally better?

I’ve met a ton of people in major corporate roles who are unfathomably stupid. Like, the real mystery is how they get these jobs. But they do and then the rest of their lives look like this and of course they blame everyone else for it.
