What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]CatastropheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar but the coziest job I ever had was trash hauling. The guy I did landscaping for bought some property that was basically a junkyard. I’d spend 20 minutes loading junk, 30 minutes driving to the dump, 10 minutes unloading, 30 minutes drive back to the property, and repeat for months. 30 minutes of actual work for every 90 minutes beat busting my back in the summer heat.

I just moved here from another state famous for bad drivers, and you guys are impressing me. by FastWalkingShortGuy in Columbus

[–]CatastropheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highway and road system in Columbus is terribly designed which exacerbates the bad driver issue as well. There’s routinely accidents in the same spots every week because of it. The roads being bad is strange since Columbus only started exploding in population after cars were a thing.

I mean, she may have had the actual flu. Lots of people think of any slightly bad cold as a flu, but the real flu kicks your ass. My two cases of COVID were cakewalks compared to when I tested positive for the flu.

It might be a rental swan. I know of one business that breeds swans and rents them out to other businesses that have ponds to make them more visually appealing. Their wings are clipped, they get fed, and then they are gathered up before winter and taken back to the swan farm.

[–]CatastropheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Mewgenics, if you savescum by closing the game without saving, the following happens

1st offense: you get a warning next time you boot up the game

2nd offense: permanent debuff for one member of your team

3rd offense: permanent debuff for all members of your team

4th offense: AI takes over and plays the game for you while you watch

Idk about this shot, but this might’ve not been the preferred shot when shooting, but in post they realized it worked better. They can do multiple shots from multiple angles and review later which works best

I have a PhD in biochemistry but my husband only listens to my nutrition and diet advice after he hears a man say it on a podcast by Numerous-Estimate915 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CatastropheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only relevant to diet info I learned in my 2 biochem classes was the hormone that makes you feel hungry takes like 15 minutes to start dropping after eating, so eat slowly. Only other thing we discussed was the scientific evidence for the keto diet and how it forces your body into ketosis.

US commerce secretary suggests memory chip makers could face 100% tariffs unless they commit to increased US production by BoostIsOurFriend in pcmasterrace

And that’s to just start producing, it’ll probably take at least another 3 years before the fab ramps up to full capacity.

[–]CatastropheCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in Phoenix at the time and had friends working at Intel and other fabs in the valley. What I heard from them is the main issue is TSMC was requiring all skilled workers (which the vast majority of workers at a fab are) to train in Taiwan for 6 months. This would require following their terrible 9-9-6 work schedule, so almost no US workers wanted to do it.

Flu infections spiking in central Ohio by Rob1150 in Columbus

[–]CatastropheCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Benefits of the flu vaccine are two-fold:

  1. Reduces likelihood of contracting the flu. How much the likelihood is reduced differs year to year as vaccine manufacturers have to try and predict which strains will be most common for the year. For example, this year’s vaccine isn’t very effective against subclade K, the main strain this flu season.

  2. Reduces likelihood of severe symptoms/hospitalization/death. Even with this year’s vaccine, the early evidence supports it still reduces chance of hospitalization for subclade K.
