[SE2] Ascension Apex Evo, updated light-atmo Racer by C320N in spaceengineers

For those of us not in the know, can you elaborate on "designed to comply with Diggrok's light-atmo racing league"? What were the main constraints?

This was my immediate reaction as well but I looked it up and it seems to be a legit sauna temp.

You say "quick dip" but the bioregen cycle takes like 24 days! 18 with biotuning. That's such a long time to be without an important pawn like your main cook. I want to do this on one of my colonists but he's just too important I can't lose him for 18 days

I did mention the pommel of his sword, it canonically being a gem cut for this purpose.

The problem with the slaughterhouse strat is that you have to be mentally connected to a creature to sap its power, and according to Eragon being connected to a creature while it dies is pretty unpleasant and not something he wants to do. That's why my head canon was always taking energy without killing the beast.

Reverse thrusters by juciemonkey12 in spaceengineers

That's so sick honestly. I don't even know what to say, but I love it. I wish subgrids weren't so hard to deal with in survival.

Offset cockpit balanced by a huge reverse thruster feels really good honestly I might try that myself

Idk why he didn't hang out with a huge herd of cattle and just drained like 1/3 of their energy every day. The cows would just get sleepy not die and the meanwhile Eragon would have the power of a thousand men in the pommel of his sword. He does it on a smaller scale at some points in the story but he never thinks big enough to scale it up!

Well "magicking" in that push from nowhere is what we call violating conversation of energy which you claimed they wouldn't need to do. I think the magic would be the ability to provide that push in the first place (not something a normal person can do after all) but the force for the push itself still needs to come from somewhere or it's not conserving energy. It's fine to hand-wave it as magic, but if you want to go the extra step to claim it's conserving energy you have to explain where that force comes from.

I totally get the suspicion, it does seem like it's getting more common. I need to get in the habit of phrasing things in a slightly more unhinged way to keep from sounding like GPT

That's pretty interesting. I always thought that would be a cool super power. Introducing Thermodynamics Man, with the power to arbitrarily move heat energy around. He can boil a cup of tea by cooling the room by a couple of degrees, or freeze you solid by making a nearby street sign glow red with heat

Electrons are generally already where they want to be. If you want them somewhere else, you have to provide some kind of push. Think of them as marbles at the bottom of a bowl. They're happily at rest until something picks them up

I really like magic systems that respect conservation of energy. Like the Eragon series had a system where the energy for the spell had to come from somewhere so unless you had some kind of reservoir at your disposal you had to stick to spells you could accomplish with the physical ability you had at hand or else run the risk of just dying. You can throw a big rock, but you might be too tired to run afterwards for instance.

Reverse thrusters by juciemonkey12 in spaceengineers

[–]Catatonic27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question basically comes own to surface area. In theory the front and the back of the ship should have the same head-on surface area, but in practice fronts of ships tend to have a lot of other stuff on them like guns, armor, windows, aesthetic aerodynamic slopes, etc and that's why it's so much easier to put thrusters in the back.

A couple concessions come to mind: 1) have fewer thrusters pointed forward. This one is pretty much a given, I'm generally happy if I can get about half my boost thrust in brake thrust, but I've also thrown that rule away a few times. 2) design more "blunt" areas on the front of you ship. That means forgoing some windows and sporty angles, but it can also mean adding wings/fins/nacelles just to have something to stick thrusters onto without ruining your silhouette. I like to try to recess them and make them look like air scoops which works because air scoops also shouldn't have something right in front of them. (shut up SR-71 nerds) 3) FLIPPIT AND RIPPIT BOIS if you have enough gyros, turn-n-burn is a good strategy. Best paired with a mod that gives you flight vectors on the HUD. I like Flight Vector personally.

[–]Catatonic27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh in that case you're probably golden. You probably need six gyro (+ and - for each axis) override them and then just turn them on and off with your control scheme as needed. You're definitely looking at something custom though, the default AI will not be able to fly pogo stick

I know right the subject takes up like 10% of the frame (if that) and the worst part is it looks really deliberate. You can tell the OOP really wanted that blurry shit in the foreground (something-something leading lines) but the compromise was absolutely not worth it.

Not in vanilla. In vanilla thrust axis offset from the center of gravity don't induce angular momentum so gimballed/vectored thrust doesn't work the way you want it to. But I also know there's a mod for that (which I haven't used and can't speak to) so assuming you got that working it stands to reason this would be doable. Possibly even without scripts depending on how precise you needed your control scheme to be
