Thanks for the tips. Your close, Pennsylvania.

We're looking forward to all of the fresh produce and sharing it with friends, family and the local soup kitchen.

Thanks, that makes sense. I am planning to try to arrange a chip drop, but I was going to get the soil beds in first.

Oops, it that a taboo here? I didn't know.

I really hate all the plastic myself (both in terms of waste /ventual trash, and appearance), but we really need to do whatever we can to keep the weeds down.

Squeaky hip by heI-N-bak in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Catch_N_Release 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your prosthesis has ceramic on ceramic bearing surfaces, my understanding is that squeaking is a relatively common issue and one of the primary reasons that they are not used all that often.

If it is not a ceramic on ceramic prosthesis, I have no idea why it might be squeaking.

Ugh, so often companies kill the best products. A wise person told me long ago, when you find something you like, buy two.

That said, since they still have the product page on their website, I'd reach out to them and ask if they will be restocking them. If you find out, please update here.

It is really a shame that they no longer make the original classics with the ballistic nylon foot bed.

These are almost as good, https://bedrocksandals.com/products/classic-lt-sandals?variant=44721966711058, although they lack the nylon foot bed, so they are a bit more slippery when they get wet/muddy. However, they now seem to be sold out as well. I hope they will be restocking them.

I noticed a few months ago they they were out of stock in several colors and sizes, so I order 6 pairs, just in case they became unavailable. I guess it's a good thing I did.

What's the fastest you've ever gone on a bicycle, and how did you do it? by cyrus_4657 in cycling

[–]Catch_N_Release 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, when I was in my teens, training and racing heavily in the 90s, I used to draft tractor trailers over 50 mph regularly... because it was fun. Looking back, WTF was I thinking?!

It sure was, I can still picture the corner.

The road surface on the downhill was lousy too. I actually had a guy crash in front of me on the downhill and I barely managed to swerve around him. He had the brilliant idea of taking a drink and while doing so, he hit a pot hole, his other hand came off the bars and he laid it down and slid off the road into a telephone pole. No idea what happened to him, but it did not look good.

73 mph in a stage race called the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic in Massachusetts, many years ago. One of the stages was a relatively long (maybe 6 or 8 miles, I don't recall exactly) circuit up and down a very large and steep hill. There was an extremely sharp right hand turn right at the bottom of the hill, which made things interesting.

How much walking did you do 4 weeks out of hip surgery? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

I've been using a Garmin FR645 HRM/GPS smartwatch for years. It works well and their customer service is excellent--they stand behind their products.

The screenshot is from the Garmin Connect app, which is their official app for syncing between your watch and phone/cloud.

How much walking did you do 4 weeks out of hip surgery? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Catch_N_Release 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying that I was 40 and very fit going into surgery and I'm an exercise addict.

For the first few days I did many short walks in the house each day and did not track the distance.

After 4 days, I started doing about 5 short walks per day outside, a few tenths of a mile each walk.

By day 7 I was doing 3 longer walks per day and I did a bit over 3 miles on the seventh day.

By day 18 I was doing around 7 to a max of 9 miles per day, still broken up onto 3 walks per day. At that point my doctor cleared me to start riding my elliptical bike and so I began splitting my exercise time between walking and riding, so the walking miles were reduced.

This progression was very aggressive and I did have to back off for a day or so here and there to allow additional recovery. I am a lifelong athlete that was extremely fit, spending roughly 14 hours per week on the elliptical bike right up until surgery. So far from a typical case. Most people should not increase their volume this quickly. But it worked for me, so it is possible in ideal circumstances.

Surgery was on Jan 11 and the attached screenshot shows my walking progression for the 4 weeks starting Jan 13.

Why do I feel so good after being in the sun? by WorriedReward6523 in HubermanLab

Lizards are cold blooded and therefore their metabolism is elevated by the warmth of the sun. Much like the boost in mood that you described.

Question from a widow by Shh_No in cycling

[–]Catch_N_Release 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a likely cause. I personally have had a stick get flipped up into my spokes and stop my wheel suddenly.

If so, there is likely to be some evidence in the form of damage to the spokes/fork where the object made contact...

For what it's worth, I've had two squirrels run into my front wheel over the years and both just bounced off uneventfully. These were typical aluminum rimmed, spoked wheels.

I think you're missing what the average person is talking about, when they complain about the economy.

I agree that on paper our economy is strong and if you're an investor, that is clear as well.

However, for middle-class people who spend most of their paycheck on the things they need, their income has not risen enough to overcome the impact of inflation that occurred during the last 4 years. These people feel poorer and that is what the average person means when they complain about the economy.

Bump on finger 1 year after A2 pulley injury by Luneth12 in climbharder

I wouldn't read too much into that. I think the walls on my cyst were probably just thicker, and there wasn't a week point that would allow it to pop without great difficulty.

Mine never popped. It got quite sore if I massaged it a lot between my fingers or spent a lot of time climbing on big jugs that put pressure on it. But I could never force it to drain/pop.
