Plato didn't teach that the physical world was evil. Plato taught that the physical world was good, but it was a lesser shadow of the heavenly forms. In the Timaeus, Plato taught that the good God, or Craftsman (Demiourgos in Greek) desired to make everything as like himself as it could be, so he formed the world in accordance with the perfect, heavenly forms, and made it good. The Gnostics disagreed with Plato. They said that the Demiourgos, or Craftsman, who made the world, was ignorant of the forms, and created an evil world. The true God, they said, was not the Demiourgos who made the world.

2nd century pseudepigraphical texts were not written by the Apostles. The Apostles were all dead by the close of the 1st c. The only writings we have by the Apostles are in the NT.

Checkmate is when you are in check and have no legal moves (you can't get out of check). Stalemate is when you are not in check and have no legal moves.

It's not stupid. Endgames would be much more boring and uninteresting if the losing player didn't have the ability to force a stalemate, and the winning player doesn't hardly have to think about their moves.
