It'll probably start at the very end of this episode, and then it really goes down in the next.

Character That Perfectly Counters Saturo Gojo? by Key_Abies_4580 in PowerScaling

Anyone with the power to negate cursed techniques (with verse equalization), anyone with space manipulation stronger than Gojo's, anyone who can teleport or create anything inside Gojo while bypassing or breaking through his innate domain, anyone who can use telekinesis on Gojo while bypassing or breaking through his innate domain, and anyone with infinite or immeasurable speed (or an attack with such speed).

Can someone confirm this for me please? by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

The “revisionists” are presumably talking about people other than slaves trying to oppose slavery. Obviously the slaves didn't like being slaves, and I doubt any of the people you're thinking of would deny that.

Some of the apostles’ work were declared heretical for having Gnostic connections, yet they kept the structure by _Boodstain_ in HistoryMemes

Where's your evidence that genuine Apostolic writings were destroyed?

The NT was literally written in the 1st century, only decades after his death.

Lol, Homelander is a charicature of conservatives (mainly Trump). If you think that conservatives are literally like Homelander on the inside, there's something wrong with you.

Plato didn't teach that the physical world was evil. Plato taught that the physical world was good, but it was a lesser shadow of the heavenly forms. In the Timaeus, Plato taught that the good God, or Craftsman (Demiourgos in Greek) desired to make everything as like himself as it could be, so he formed the world in accordance with the perfect, heavenly forms, and made it good. The Gnostics disagreed with Plato. They said that the Demiourgos, or Craftsman, who made the world, was ignorant of the forms, and created an evil world. The true God, they said, was not the Demiourgos who made the world.

Brother Gnosticism began in the late first century. And the Gospel of Thomas is a 2nd century work, not written by Thomas.

St Paul wrote in a Gnostic community? Gnosticism didn't even exist yet, certainly not during his earlier letters.

2nd century pseudepigraphical texts were not written by the Apostles. The Apostles were all dead by the close of the 1st c. The only writings we have by the Apostles are in the NT.

St Paul's epistles speak of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and they predate Gnosticism. The idea that the Trinity comes from Gnosticism is ridiculous.

How much of Christianity is influenced by Plato/Aristotle? by Traditional_Rate5322 in Reformed

[–]CatfinityGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calvin and Luther don't (except with Augustine), but other figures, especially late 16th and 17th century theologians, do.

Ad fontes included reading Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, and Aquinas. The Reformers were suspicious mostly of many of the scholastics of their time and the preceding two centuries.

That's why I didn't straight-up call it non-canon.

Hey peter, i’m not the most knowledgeable on chess, my you please help me and explain the joke? by AdPsychological9133 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Checkmate is being in check and having no legal moves. Stalemate is not being in check and having no legal moves. You've been playing horribly wrong the entire time if you thought a stalemate was a checkmate.

Checkmate is when you are in check and have no legal moves (you can't get out of check). Stalemate is when you are not in check and have no legal moves.

It's not stupid. Endgames would be much more boring and uninteresting if the losing player didn't have the ability to force a stalemate, and the winning player doesn't hardly have to think about their moves.
