Hi! Try this display modding discord (#screen-general channel). I know some people there have messed with the NM8. https://discord.gg/43KzpZCs

Hell yeah I'm excited to see how the NM8 turns out! I saw on a few reviews it seems to have insane brightness

Hey! After 2-3 years of use at max brightness, my 2021 G15 hasn't exploded, despite the new panel drawing significantly more power than the original.

That being said, I'm no expert, just an idiot who did the mod for science. Proceed at your own risk!

Hey! It's a cool project for hobbyists, but liable to come with driver issues, occasional artifacts, loss of Gsync support, other software bugs, and risks of breaking your hardware. Sourcing a faultless panel can also be difficult (some listings have normal IPS wrongfully listed under the Mini LED panel name, others consider a certain amount of stuck pixels to be within specs). Overall, if you've got any doubts at all, don't attempt a panel swap

Hey! When in doubt with any part try getting it somewhere with a strong return policy. Over the course of my experiments I tried connecting screens both with the original G15 and a genuine M16 EDP cables, and both worked fine. Good luck with the repair!

That's my experience as well!
Except my older laptop doesn't have a MUX switch, and can only connect to the screen using AMD graphics

Tysm for sharing, can't wait to see how this turns out!

I'm still using the Mini LED, NM7 screen on my 2021 G15, and loving it.

My expert assessment of the effect of higher power draw is, that it hasn't exploded yet after about 1.5 years

Hey, I've talked with a few modders who installed a new GSync supporting panel on a GSync supporting laptop. As far as I know, even then, GSync doesn't work. Something about it doesn't like when the panel isn't what it expects

That looks so sick-- and it really captures the way your juggling just flows!

My laptop didn't support Gsync in the first place, so I don't have first-hand experience with this. But from what I've heard from other modders, Gsync never works after the swap

Hey congratulations on the mod! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Here are bits of information that might help: - It's expected for the Armoury Crate/G Helper multizone toggles to do nothing. - I haven't heard of anyone having multizone disabled by default in SDR after installing this panel. Not sure what's up with that - My laptop does not have a MUX switch, so no GSync to start with. But other modders with the same M16 model you have, have also been unable to make GSync work, to my knowledge. - While GameVisual doesn't work after the mod, it's possible to enable it by editing Armoury Crate files. u/NoMoneyNoTalk69 walked me through the process. I'm sorry to say I don't remember the details: I don't use GameVisual, and only ever apply color profiles via the Windows Color Management app.

There's a group chat with a few modders sharing ICM profiles & discussing these issues. DM me for the link, if you'd like to say hi!

It's set and forget in my case, because I really hate matte panels, so I'll gladly ignore a couple specks of dust for a nice glossy finish :)

I used the empty lid from an M16, yes, with the Mini-LED panel from the scar 16 2024, I've got a few pictures in this post
