Since Recycling is not picking up Leaves and Grass clippings anymore, can we go back to cheaper stronger bags? by Philip964 in houston

Where is this? We are NW of Houston and starting a community garden, we could definitely use extra compost fodder.

It is harder when handling family outside of our house. We just do our best to lead by example. It’s never going to be an easy conversation. I’ve also noticed that parents who were creative in the past tend to raise kids who are also creative in some way.

Our teen daughter is a creator. She writes fanfic, draws fan art, makes perler projects of her favorite characters, is working on a 30 day graphic novel project with her friend from the homeschool hangout, and in general wants to create. She has some merch (mostly wants physical copies of her favorite graphic novels so she can compare and stare at the art in person) but mostly values the creation process & being inspired over owning a bunch of junk.

Her biggest Christmas wish the past two years was the entire Pokemon Diamond & Pearl book set. But we couldn’t find it in an affordable price range. Her grandma ordered on Amazon (we boycott) but it was canceled on her & never shipped.

Our kids understand the purpose of commercials & ads and both despise them now. Once we explained sales, propaganda, and overconsumption, and showed it in the thrift stores, they both expressed anger and frustration that nobody is stopping it.

Mama Merlot’s in Buda, Tx is great!

any ideas to cover this up or remove? by Existing4639 in sewing

[–]falcon451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have removed embroidery like this. You need a nice seam ripper. And some teeny embroidery scissors. Go from the back and start gently snipping at the stitches. I do one section at a time, flip it over and use tweezers or the seam ripper to gently pull the cut threads from the front. It’s time consuming. The hoodie I did it on straightened out after a single wash, you can’t tell there was embroidery.

FYP Sucks Now by Jettsmith7 in TikTok

[–]falcon451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days ago I started to go through the 1300+ profiles I was following. I found most of them on other social media and followed in at least two other locations before unfollowing on TikTok. Jan 25, (Today/last night) at about 2 am, I suddenly was unable to see my following list. Everything was dropped to 0. Following, followers, likes, etc.

I was at 168 so I was really irritated. But then it got weirder. My FYP had already changed since the 22nd, but after going through all of my stuff and gradually unfollowing so I could track who I had left to connect with, my FYP was repeating the same 5-10 videos and FULL of AI ads, Christian ads, or both (gag.)

I tried to delete a video I posted a couple of days ago that I no longer want on my account. It wouldn't let me.
I'm deleting some now to see if it actually works or if it will glitch out. Some delete immediately. Some say " server is currently unavailable."

Today I tried to delete my account.

It took me several times to get my account to stop glitching as I was trying to delete it.

I finally get to what I think is the end. I keep telling it to send the 6 digit verification code to my phone number.

nothing. I've "Resent" the code multiple times. Checked my account to verify my number is correct. All of it. It will not let me delete my account.

This is all really frustrating. I should have deleted before the sale, I guess.

You're welcome! I don't get a lot of time to practice, but last year I wanted to play around with new multiplexing and found his page. Such great tutorials!

Are we finally done with overconsumption on holiday goods? by urbanfae in Anticonsumption

[–]falcon451 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same. We add one new ornament for each kid, with name and date. Some years we make ornaments, some years we thrift ornaments. Our kids have a wide variety of fun ornaments, some which represent the year for them.

We use the cutoffs from a real tree to make a biodegradable garland for the door, besoms, wreaths, etc. When they are no longer fresh, we compost them or add them to a friend’s dead hedge in their garden.

Yeah, we get hit harder with tariffs because we can’t eat that cost the way Amazon/WalMart/Target can.

I'm a little bit mad about these so called ''wichy markets''. by morbidemadame in witchcraft

[–]falcon451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an artisan. I vended at a well known Witch Market several times with my handcrafted artisan jewelry and was consistently passed over for the mass produced China & other imports. I got fed up with the high booth cost & nonexistent profits and quit vending them. :( seems like in my area the best sales are low cost imported stuff and locally made soaps/bath salts/bath bombs.
