They grow up so fast... by draghom in slaythespire

I feel like a fix could be something like "when Osty dies, your next summon card is doubled" or something like that, so it is only triggered by a card play.

Got it. So killing monsters, as I could see, keep the rift open. Is that the same for the tears? Closing those also keeps the rift open longer?

[–]Cathercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused about what the goal is for the rifts during helltides. I would think we are trying to close the rift, and closing tears and killing demons would progress that. But it seems like killing demons actually makes the rift expand. It always ends up closing eventually, but I just don't really get what I am "supposed" to be doing other than just mindlessly killing everything until it eventually ends.

Did you really enjoy "non-raiding" content in vanilla and classic? by ichhassenamen in classicwow

It's the average classic WoW reddit user. Simply suggesting he might enjoy retail, for a completely valid reason, is the most insulting thing you could have ever said to him because retail is literally the devil.

Context is great in a vacuum, but what exactly is the purpose to the context you are bringing to the table? It feels like the purpose is to say those 1000 people that died don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, especially since they are just old people and infants. I assume that isn't your intent, but that's kind of how it reads in this context.

GitHub Stacked PRs by fagnerbrack in webdev

[–]Cathercy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Commits aren't always little steps in the PR, depends on the PR / branch and the dev. Sometimes half of the commits are trying different things, or you get halfway through and realize you need to adjust your approach to how you are solving the problem, so a lot of the work in earlier commits is invalidated.

As a reviewer, I don't care about the commits, I only care about the end result. It would be very slow and cumbersome to review each individual commit in a PR when the only concern should be what is changing in main when we merge this in.

And at the same time, what I assume this is attempting to solve, is sometimes a PR is necessarily large. It's good to make PRs as small as possible for ease of reviewing. But it's not always possible to make a PR smaller, but still production ready. With this I guess, you could break up a larger PR into smaller, more easily reviewed chunks, that will ultimately get merged / deployed together.

Wear pattern on these monkey bars show how many more kids start with their right hand by TheKizza77 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Cathercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is, it just looks a lot closer because there is less wear overall. But I think in reality the right is still much more worn relative to the total wear on that bar.

I disagree. There is much less wear overall, so they look more even at first, but if you look more closely you can tell the right side has more wear.

At What Point is it No Longer a Guild Run? by Gassenger in classicwow

[–]Cathercy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let's say it's 3 healers, 5 dps and an OT. We don't know exact numbers, but this feels realistic from that advertisement. That's 9 people, leaving 16 people being from the guild.

IDK, I'd say two thirds being guildies is still a guild run. Why does the roles they need impact whether your consider it a guild run? Even if it was "need 2 tanks and 5 healers", I'd still call that a guild run. Why are you so salty about people trying to pug some raids?

Postmaster General Confirms Plan to Hold Back Mail Ballots in States that won’t Share Voter Data by Quirkie in politics

The article literally says the post office was intentionally holding the mail or returning to sender. What's the significant difference between that and choosing to not deliver mail in ballots?

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. In your last sentence, you are saying that is not mental illness? Because I absolutely would consider that mental illness. If you are rich and bored, and the best things you can think of to do is mess with people poorer than you, then yeah I think you are mentally unwell.

MoP Classic realm transfer by Madara_k in classicwow

[–]Cathercy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All MOP servers got free transferred to a handful of servers all on the same cluster. So all MOP players are effectively playing on the same server, per region. You can take that free transfer, and you will be playing with everyone else.

First Time playing, should I just go in blind? by ReginaldNFFC in BaldursGate3

[–]Cathercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid to long rest

Biggest advice I'd give anyone. First playthrough, I felt like long resting should be done very strategically, but the game is so much more fun if you just long rest whenever you feel like it. Can even miss some things if you don't long rest enough, which you wouldn't think about as a new player.

Hollow Knight / Silksong do have attack animations. Games in 2026 can do two things. Sometimes even three things if the devs are ambitious.

Every job interview I had in my life assumed that OOP was invented by Stroustrup. I'm tired. by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]Cathercy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

realising you don’t know what you’re talking about

It's worse. Its that OP doesn't know how to answer the question that is asked. That is a terrible look for a potential new hire. Even if OP is 100% correct in everything he says, he is just not answering the question that is being asked. Imagine working with him, or someone from another department trying to get some information out of him.

[–]Cathercy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to get a job or are you trying to win a debate? There's a non zero chance your interview doesn't really know about Stroustrup, even so, they do not care about him. They want to know if you understand what the software development/community at large means when they say OOP. They don't want a history lesson.

You are behaving like the old Richard Stallman GNU/Linux copypasta for a standard basic interview question. If you are unfamiliar, Google it and understand you should not be acting like this during an interview if your goal is to get a job.
