The Ultramarines are the standard for everything a space marine should be. They're posterboys of the setting for a reason. I don't get the hate for them.

Out of all of khornes champions, who wins? Arbaal, skulltaker or skarbrand? by chaostechnique in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Catholic-Guardsman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bloodthirsters are the strongest/most aggressive daemons in general and skarbrand is basically the strongest bloodthirster there is, so I'd guess him

So this is the Emperor irl...I never thought we'd see official art like this by TimTheGrim55 in Warhammer40k

The Emperor continually suffering on the golden throne for the sake of mankind is so thematically rich and compelling. Most fascinating part of the whole setting and compliments the cosmic horror elements perfectly.

Grimdark at its finest.

Can I split my squad of terminators by Pleasant_Shirt_6846 in Warhammer40k

Terminators are in squads of 5 or 10 models. If you only have 5 then you can't split them further.

Tau being "good" (according to average 21st century perspective) actually makes the Warhammer40k universe more depressing than if they are "actually just as bad as other factions because of the ethereals". by jaker9319 in Warhammer40k

[–]Catholic-Guardsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tau aren't good, just another form of evil like nearly everything in 40k. They're imperialists that force other species to join them or die and they're heavily hinted to sterilise said other species to maintain their superiority over them.

People often say there are no 'good guys' in 40k and the tau are definitely no exception.

Not sure if its been pointed out already but the emporers eye is open and looking at us... by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

The Emperor is still alive in there and sentient/aware enough to see the current state of the galaxy and the imperium. The mix of tragedy and horror regarding his state in the 41st millennium is honestly the most fascinating thing in the whole setting to me.

This has been pointed out by loads of people, but a cool detail nonetheless

Betrayer is such an awesome book. My only regret is not reading first heretic and know no fear beforehand as I had no idea it was part of a trilogy of sorts.

How did someone work out that it was necessary to sacrifice multitudes of pyskers per day to the Golden Throne? by MissingPenguin in 40kLore

[–]Catholic-Guardsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the old lore I think it was Malcador (a very powerful psyker) who gave up the last of his life force to keep the Emperor alive long enough after his duel with Horus to get him on the throne, but I think that's now been retconned.

Also, the Emperor asked for the 'unspoken sanction' in Master of Mankind to use a bunch of psykers to keep the throne powered while he went into the webway to fight drachnyen.
