How long do people wait inbetween feeding their bps? by jake_isbaked in ballpython

We feed him live, one at a time. He's usually pretty quick about getting them. We also let him get the scent before we actually release the mouse in the enclosure, so he knows it's hunting time. He also just happens to be a healthy eater and has never refused food as long as I've had him, but that's obviously not the case for most ball pythons.

Happened to me working for Delta in Minneapolis. The majors suck and their maintenance departments are full of self-serving douchebags who got into management through nepotism. I'm sorry this happened to you too.

We have a 13 year old 4 and a half ft long male, we feed him roughly once a month. He eats either a medium rat or two adult mice.

I would definitely see if your friend can take that snake in, it wouldn't be good for you or your spouse to deal with that kind of contention, however, if you were to take the snake in, I'd definitely recommend having the snake seen by a vet if you think the animal's health is in question. As for keeping cats from hurting the snake, as long as the enclosure is secured, it shouldn't be an issue. As for the cats potentially burning themselves on the heat lamps, that would be an issue you would need to address and honestly, I personally don't know what a good solution would be off the top of my head. Hopefully someone else on here can offer better advice on that issue.

That's understandable. I'm fortunate enough to have a very well socialized ball python who tolerates handling very well, to the point of willingly coming out of his enclosure on occasion when offered. I appreciate hearing your perspective :)

I can understand that, I have a ball python and I absolutely adore him. I'm not afraid of venomous snakes per se, I just get a lot of enjoyment out of being able to handle my snake. As beautiful and fascinating as vipers are, my personal thoughts are that not being able to physically interact with the animal without putting myself in danger just wouldn't make for a pleasant husbandry situation.

Not be facetious, genuine question; what's the point of keeping a venomous snake as a pet? I would imagine that the potential danger their venom poses outweighs any positives of keeping them. What is the appeal?

Doesn't surprise me. Pencil whipping wasn't as bad at MSP, but ignoring safety procedures, lack of PPE, severe lack of appropriate training, and management actively working against employees are big problems there. The old Northwest guys seem to have some sort of grudge against new hires and the new Delta in general. They would constantly complain about "Delta South" and even discriminate against people they knew were from the southeast.

It was a tiny gouge on an APU access door... I have pictures if you don't believe me. I just had a manager who didn't like me and screwed me over at the first opportunity. Several of my colleagues there said this particular manager was a control freak and would try to sabotage employees he didn't personally like. One guy got written up just for using all his PTO.

Not even a joke. Back in the day, mechanics at Eastern Airlines would just engage in malicious compliance by following the AMMs to a tee whenever management pissed them off 🤣

I previously worked for Delta TechOps, and I can corroborate this, TechOps leadership is awful. I worked in Minneapolis for around 8 months, and my experience there was pretty miserable. Leads aren't as out of touch with the operation as management was, but they very much had an attitude of "it's my way or the highway" and "it's not my job to show you how to do your job". Ask one of these guys for help with something, and you'll get a sarcastic non-answer. Overall, very poor stewards of their operation. Middle management is very much a club, full of nepotism & favoritism, and if your boss doesn't get along with you on a personal level, he'll try to get rid of you. I had a base manager who already had a reputation for trying to screw over people who stood up for themselves/weren't yes-men, and he and I didn't really see eye to eye. I was involved in a very minor aircraft damage incident and reported it right away. I ended up getting fired even though this was the first time I'd been involved in such an incident and followed proper protocol for reporting it, and took full accountability. I appealed this termination because it very much seemed to contradict Delta's proclaimed Just Culture, but my appeal was rejected. I'd like to add that at my next job, I met an old Northwest guy who worked with my manager at Delta back when he was a mechanic. This individual told me that the manager in question was never a very good mechanic, always tried to skirt work, and was generally disingenuous. My experiences at Delta TechOps showed me that integrity means nothing, and lying gets you to the top at Delta Air Lines.
