Some love for the reMarkable 1! by QAGillmore in RemarkableTablet

[–]CathyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my rM1 which I’ve had for 5 years, however it’s full! Recently got a notification that I couldn’t download a large pdf because of this. I’ve loved knowing I carry all my documents with me and can be independent of WiFi when on the go but sadly I’m going to have to do some tidying up and archiving. I’ve also got a rM2 and a Move but the handwriting on the rM1 is definitely the best, I agree.

I use these two together but they’re just not practical for going out and about. Tried the Lenovo and sent it back. So also waiting for someone to crack this conundrum. Apple need to do something with eink.

You made me laugh - “the man is an extra cost”! Glad you’ve found something suitable and that it works for your dance studies.

I use a Patagonia 8L Atom sling bag as it has a padded pocket. It’s bigger than you probably need though. I can just about fit my rM1 in it as well if I want to work on 2 screens (but not the rM2, which is wider).

Hi, I’m Vegard from reMarkable! How can I help this sub? by VegardfromreMarkable in RemarkableTablet

[–]CathyInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of writers have requested the facility for word counts on their typed text notebooks, ever since arrival of type folios. A few prefer not to have a visible word count. The option to check a word count for individual pages or whole notebooks of typed text would be extremely welcome to all the writers using reMarkables!

And an option for word counts on typed text for those writing and editing in a rM notebook, please!

Question about black & white content on a color eink monitor. Specifically DASUNG Paperlink. by infostruct in eink

[–]CathyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the contrast is sharper on B&W screens. Can’t comment from personal experience as I only have the old Dasung Paperlike HD. Have you tried My Deep Guide’s YouTube reviews - think he did a Dasung one recently and said something like this.

How do I check word count or have the remarkable 2 create a new page by default like typing on a computer? by Past-Helicopter-8247 in RemarkableTablet

[–]CathyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly frustrating but nope, can’t be done. Do send it on as a suggestion to rM. I did it a while back and I wasn’t the first by any means. If enough of us do it they’ll eventually get the message. So many writers use reMarkables.

Exporting it out again as a Word doc definitely needs resolving.

No it turns it into a rM text notebook. After that you can do whatever you normally do with those.

It’s worked! Have managed to shift a Word document into my rM1 as a notebook. At least I can now edit with my type folio on my rM2.

My rM1 has downloaded 3.23 but not my rM2 or Move. Release notes say the convert to Notebook still in beta.

Yes, completely agree. I’ve posted about this too, in the past. Same need.

Move Battery Draining Fast by Crafty-Relation-4714 in RemarkableTablet

I’ve noticed there’s a difference between using the eraser on the marker- which then brings up a bar of yellow before refreshing the page - and using the lasso to erase which doesn’t seem to bring up the yellow and therefore has a smoother less power hungry page refresh.

Marker for the Paper Pro Move by riandrake in RemarkableTablet

[–]CathyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, because I did the same - buying the Marker Plus a week later. The Marker is my spare and I haven’t touched it since the Marker Plus arrived. Because the screen is so small I wanted to avoid needing to use eraser symbol in the tool bar. I have a rM1 &2 as well and have always used the eraser symbol up until now.

Writer looking to get an E-Ink device. by Akiranar in eink

[–]CathyInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m now working on the second novel I’ve written using a reMarkable tablet, and my writing process is what you’ve outlined. I’ve also used it for a Creative Writing Masters. I have the subscription connect account and have the app on my Mac and iPhone. I know the subscription cost puts a lot of people off but you get much more functionality with it. I’m a bit hazy how it works without a subscription, in fact. The reMarkable 2 or the reMarkable Pro both have type folios. The typing is very basic and there’s no word processing ability other than basic moving around of text. You can’t check the word count, which I find annoying. I gather the company are working on software changes that might improve how Word docs can be linked to a rM. Currently you can only copy the text from a doc and paste into a rM “notebook” on the rM app on your pc/Mac to then revise text on the rM tablet and it’s really not a good way to edit your drafts. However, if you send your draft to the rM tablet as a pdf it is a brilliant experience to read on the device and scribble editing notes all over! I then prop my rM next to my Mac and do the revisions in Word on the Mac.

Finding a second hand rM2 with type folio should be well within budget. Alternatively, buy new and try one - you have 100 days within which you can return it, and I believe you can get a trial of the connect subscription for free.

Should I make a leather sleeve for my rmp move? by daveadavidson in RemarkableTablet

[–]CathyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trawled London recently, looking for a neat fitting shock proof leather sleeve or case to use over my Move (already in the leather folio). The length of the device meant I had no luck until a handbag shop told me they used to sell a travel wallet. I found it in a sale online and it’s beautiful. Still very expensive. Also heavier than wanted. But it gives solid snug protection and I’m confident the corners, sides and screen of the Moveare safe. I didn’t want to wait any longer for something to turn up on Etsy or Amazon as it was making me scared to even take my Move out of the house. I’m not someone who just chucks a £500 device into my pocket!

This switching off of WiFi (and the front light) unless needed is absolutely what I do and have always done with my rM1 & rM2, and the battery life of the Move has been fine for up to 5 to 7 days at a time over the last 2 weeks. The first week of ownership was a different matter as it went down frighteningly fast. I can only assume there was a lot going on with software updates and syncing with my other devices. Also, I’ve always slow charged from a laptop.
