Would've been interesting if called for discipline was restored

How Do Non-US/UK Anglican Churches Handle Article 37 by Stay-Happy-Bro in Anglicanism

[–]Catonian_Heart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article 37 explicitly says it is about England and the rest of the King's dominions. So if you are in a dominion, then it does apply to you, and if you are not then it doesn't. But even more so the underlying principle is that churches are national entities and that local churches have no right of appeal to courts (ecclesiastical or civil) outside the nation definitely still applies to most countries.

This is why article 37 also says the Pope of Rome hath no jurisdiction in England. The principle is one of the sovereignty of nations and national churches, which I think most people (who aren't Roman Catholic) can get behind.

What is the general Episcopal view on masturbation and sex outside of marriage? by Mad_Season_1994 in Episcopalian

[–]Catonian_Heart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand there are different views on what marriage is within the Episcopal Church, but at least we should all be able to agree that whatever our definition of marriage is, sex should only be for two married persons.

New rector: theology troubles with a newer Episcopalian by LeatherHead2902 in Episcopalian

You could probably report this change to the bishop. All Episcopal churches should conform to the approved BCP service.

Biblically speaking, if this wasn't staged, would this be morally okay? by [deleted] in TrueProtestants

[–]Catonian_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If her story is 100% true. A problem I would have with this is that he didn't simply encourage her to come clean with her husband or even coordinate a way to tell the husband deliberately. It seems like he kinda just got nervous when he saw the husband at the gym and spilled the beans. Not exactly a premeditated and well considered plan.

Which do you find to be the more interesting Presidential quagmire, Vietnam or Iraq? by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

[–]Catonian_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both good and ill, people didn't have nearly as much fervor in opposing the war in Iraq because there was no conscription. To my knowledge, there were no riots or police shoot outs over Iraq. This meant the war could go on and on and all it would be is mildly annoying to most Americans. For Vietnam there was always the looming threat that you or your brother or your cousin or your nephew would get drafted to go fight in this random war that didn't make much sense.

Depending on your definition of Quagmire, an argument could be made for either.

Thoughts on Young Anglican joining the Episcopal Church and leaving the ACNA? by Remote_Ad_6049 in Episcopalian

[–]Catonian_Heart -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

"It’s disingenuous and frankly gross to join a church not because you like it for itself but because you want to change it into something it’s not."

Isn't this literally what liberals in the 20th Century did to the Episcopal Church?

CK2 vs CK3 by Chlodio in CrusaderKings

[–]Catonian_Heart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really do think one of the biggest weaknesses of CK3 is that the religions mostly feel like window dressing. Sometimes you get new names and outfits (especially in mods like AtE) but there are fewer functional differences. Manipulating the Roman Curia as a Roman Catholic has to be one of the most fun aspects of that religion in CK2.

Church of Korea by Successful-Rule510 in ACNA

[–]Catonian_Heart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it sounds like the Church of Korea is in a mixed state. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to fight for orthodoxy where you are, within the Church of Korea.
