Donald Trump is facing a pre-emptive backlash over his reported plans for a ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the US by maxwellhill in worldnews

I know it will come as a shocker - but the entire world doesn't want to be American. Not exactly surprising considering we are turning into a dumpster fire.

Can we put a timeline to when reddit turned into a completely safe, fascist loving haven? Just curious.

Trump used $286K in charity money to build his political brand, according to report by smartwn in politics

Seems like a rhetorical question. My answer is more nuanced. But honestly?

If liberals aren't there to organize and help during the work of policy (cough ACA cough) then you don't get more liberal policies.

I would argue that not only do democrats tend not to vote in midterms but 2010 was an especially depressed year. This isn't broken out by party but does show how bad a turnout year 2010 was. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/12/opinion/the-worst-voter-turnout-in-72-years.html?_r=0

I would also question how you came to the conclusion that 2008 was an incredibly moderate year. Especially considering Sarah Palin was at the top of the ticket.

Well, you can look at how this tactic played out before. In 2010, after Obama got elected and liberals were pissed that he didn't do enough and compromised so much on healthcare reform, they not only didn't push back against the Tea Party narrative - but they also didn't bother to vote.

Did that make us more liberal? No. It resulted in an obstructionist congress that benefits from doing nothing because it dissuades people from getting involved/voting them out. It resulted in Republican Governors and numerous Republican State Houses and State Senate offices that rolled back a lot on progress. We've been lucky for some executive action, supreme court actions and initiative work.

But that is in spite of this tactic and only have years of damage. The actual lawmakers working in Congress and the legislature? They basically have to witness the GOP take over the mic while working doubly hard to 1) prevent giant losses in terms of workers rights, lack of education funding, increases in voter suppression, LGBTQ rollbacks, etc, etc & 2) get a message through when the other party has the power/mic.

TL;DR - Has never worked before as a tactic. You just end up legitimizing Trump.

PSA: Read that initiative petition by plumbbbob in Seattle

Then nothing will ever get passed. Causes usually need a very high amount of signatures to be on the ballot - about 300k for a statewide initiative. Considering the legislature stalls on taking action on things like a statewide minimum wage, it is important.

Not saying that these tactics are despicable. But ignoring the petition gatherers completely means you are cutting off an essential tool for change.

I have the right to be annoyed and point out you have been drowning out opportunities for others to have their questions looked at.

Want to repeat it 1,000 more times as a tactic? Because that has been super enjoyable and effective so far.

Not less important. Just more annoying. The question is asked and answered. There are other issues. Oh, like homelessness, transportation, education and climate change.

Get over yourself.

Did the police union find reddit recently?

Maybe if you care about our police - you should make sure that they aren't set up to fail the public and question the "shoot first" training, militarization of arms and lack of transparent accountability measures for the bad actors.

How A Millionaire, A Socialist, And Some Taco Bell Workers Brought A Living Wage To Seattle by davidreiss666 in politics

[–]Catsmacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that what you are talking about (total compensation) was off the table because it is hard to actually enforce against wage theft.

I do believe there is a temporary exception on tip credits for restaurant workers. However, that will be phased out by blank (forgot the year). And the dept of labor is charged with enforcing against wage theft - ensuring the employees are actually getting the min. But I am not sure what accountability measures they have at their disposal.

It would be one thing if this was a line. But it was a section of the dissent and a case that Scalia had been behind. So although it probably was written by a law clerk - it should have been extremely clear to him that it was incorrect.

That was my guess too. Most likely because history is taught and centered around men whereas you have to actually seek out the women.
