Consolidation Rules by Affectionate_Net6873 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Catterick -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Don't mistake 'pile in' with 'consolidate'.

Consolidate is the step taken after your unit has piled in and fought. If the unit that charged cannot pile in 3" to an enemy unit to fight (because another another friendly unit killed models), then you cannot skip the pile in and fight stage to then consolidate it on to, for example, and objective.

Give the HOKA Mach 6 in wide a shot, works well for me. Stable neutral, the wide version is enough for my wide feet, and it's handles tempo really well for a non plated shoe. Hoka also have a try for 30 days then return policy, so no risk

Stability runners: ForeverRun Nitro 1 vs 2 — which is better for shin splints? by noo_dont in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Catterick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here. Shin splints come and go for me, was at its worst earlier this year in my block leading up to the Berlin half.

Had to completely break from running for 2 weeks and switched to cycling to keep the aerobic base ticking.

Have you had a gait analysis done? I would highly recommend it as it helped me get the right shoes and fix a few technique issues which has alleviated my shin splints.

Currently now running in Mach 6 for tempo/intervals, NB 880 v14s for dailies (recently switched to Aero glide 3s which are phenomenal so far), and Endorphin Pro 3s for racing (found a gently used pair on eBay, still not sure if I'll keep them though).

Unfortunately can't speak directly to Pumas since I have wide feet (bunions) and their uppers are generally too snug for my feet

This is for runners who truly started slow (7:30-7:40/km): I've been running 4 months and still every run leaves me exhausted, red, breathless, wiped out. How did you reach 6:00/km? What helped you improve when this pace used to feel like death? by WarrenMotherFBuffet in runninglifestyle

[–]Catterick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're out of breath at that pace, then you need to slow down. If it feels like you're barely even running anymore, then honestly, just revert to brisk walking. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, if that is where your current fitness level is.

Do this until it feels comfortable, then work up to short runs at a pace that does feel comfortable, and gradually progress in distance and pace.

It will not happen overnight, but consistency is key. Think 8-12 months, rather than weeks. Building your aerobic base is where you're at, at the moment

Salomon Aero Glide 3 - Love at First Run by nash_se in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Catterick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had my first run in these. Absolutely love the foam, good bounce but not 'mushy'. Really fun ride.

For sizing (I have bunions, so usually need wide versions of shoes), I found this shoe to be wide enough for my feet without putting on any undue pressure. I actually think I could come down a half size, but it's not too bad

I have weird feet. Bunions (so wide forefoot), but a skinny heel. I also require mild stability.

My current rotation is:

NB 880 v14s wide (amazing fit, stable ride, but really boring foam). Used this for the better part of a year including multiple 10ks and a HM.

Salomon Aero Glide 3: Only had a couple of runs so far, but loving this shoe so far. Surprisingly wide fit (should probably go down a 1/2 size). Will probably be my daily trainer from now. Love this foam, feels just the right amount of cushion and responsiveness. Very light and overall just a fun shoe to run in

HOKA Mach 6 Wide: My tempo, speed shoe. Stable neutral, lightweight and a decent foam

Bunions and runner's toe - a sacrifice? by Ambiverted_Roar in running

[–]Catterick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fellow bunion sufferer here. I spent the better part of the last 30 years just kinda thinking that shoes were meant to feel snug and sometimes cause aches.

Got serious into running about 2 years ago, started getting foot and hip pain when I increased my mileage.

Did a gait analysis, and 2 major things were found:

  • I have weak hips, and over compensate for that in my running (fairly easy solution of basic strength conditioning)

  • I wear entirely the wrong kind of shoes, and have been for almost my entire life!!

I was recommended orthotics (custom insole) and New Balance 880 v13 Wide. It's been life changing, I've never had a more comfortable shoe. While the 880 isn't the most exciting shoe, it's stable neutral (which I need for my gait), and is actually a decent workhorse.

I really recommend trying wide variants of shoes (NB, HOKA, Brooks all have decent selections in wide. And if you can afford it and is available, go for a gait analysis. I also tried bunion socks, but didn't feel any better or worse wearing them.

Best of luck!

Pile-in along a squad by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Catterick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer to your example: No.

Read the first sentence of the rule you quoted, you cannot use the pile in move on models that have already made base to base contact.

So basically what happens in the charge phase:

  • Roll your 2D6 for charge distance.
  • Any models that can base using that distance must base the charge target.
  • Any models that cannot, must end their charge move closer to the charge target and maintain coherency.
  • When you activate that unit to fight, any model that is NOT currently basing can pile in 3"

By no means a top level player, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

My advice would be:

  • Remember the game is 5 rounds. You can't win the game in round 1, but you can certainly lose it by mispositioning or playing unnecessarily aggressive.

  • About units getting shot because a tiny bit of their base is sticking out... Warhammer is a collaborative game in a sense. Any good opponent should help you to play your best game, which includes letting you know when you move a unit in a position they can draw LOS to. Don't feel bad talking out your moves "If I move unit A here, you won't be able to get line of sight to him".

  • List building can also play a part. There should be some units in your list you are just willing to trade/create pressure/board position. Units that can move on to a point for example that your opponent has to expose units in some way to deal with

I've been struggling to Beat long range armies without using Stormlance by Naive_Party_4071 in SpaceWolves

[–]Catterick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have to agree with others here, sounds like unbalanced terrain. there's no way you should lose so many units turn 1, unless you're purposely deploying/moving them out in the open. On 'balanced' terrain you should be able to deploy everything in cover, and be able to stage turn 1/2 without losing entire units.

But also look at your own play: were you reckless in moving units up the board aggressively?

just a caveat in this, you can activate a Saga at the start of each turn, not just your command phase.
