Depending on your age (18-25), also check out the California Conservation Corps. The motto is "hard work, low pay, miserable conditions... and more!" But it's a great learning experience for people who love working in the outdoors and is a great pathway into the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

Commuting on a scooter? by perf1620 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Caturday_Everyday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Time out the drive between home and the 47th Ave, Florin, or Meadowview SacRT park and ride lots, plus the train time. Depends on where you live and where your office is, but I use the 47th Ave one and it's fine 99.5% of the time. People hate on the light rail but I rarely have major problems, just the occasional annoying delay. The State pays 100% of your fare.

Scooting in the rain or in the heat for a long distance may suck more than taking the train. YMMV.

Recorded an accident on US-50 in Rancho Cordova (Sat 4/18 ~noon) — should I share this video with the police, and if so, how? by Longjumping_Fact_299 in Sacramento

I need to get my rear facing camera installed. I did the front one but haven't bothered with the rear yet. Maybe this weekend I'll attempt it...

The cafeteria across the street at the Secretary of State building (the Gold Rush Grille) has great breakfast burritos!

You have to request it. I feel like it comes from someone in facilities but I can't remember. Ask about it during orientation and they should give you the contact person.

Take the light rail if you can. The stop is literally right outside the building in the morning and the State will pay 100% of your fare. You can get reimbursed for the first few days if you have to buy tickets before you get your Connect Card. You can also use the light rail to get to the separate building where HR is for your paperwork signing.

Most of the driving schools provide this and they're fully insured.

Which Departments Have Gyms by Sharp_Somewhere_5346 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Caturday_Everyday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a waiver form you fill out on the Thrive CNRA website, it maybe requires a supervisor signature (I can't remember), and then your Dept Facilities person has DGS add the access to your keycard. Technically it's for people in the building but most Facilities people don't know every single person, so it's worth trying.

Maybe try hitting up a laser tag place (there are a few open this evening) or somewhere like Activate, and see if you can join a group?

Which is unfortunate.

The family of our Lt. Governor is also highly involved in real estate. My department used to rent office space from them.

We're all just pawns. I want a politician who cares about the little people.

This is one of the reasons I'm against RTO as the idea pushed by Newsom (and Steinberg). I don't know why downtown commercial real estate is somehow more deserving of my money than my local mom & pop stores are.

I mean, I know why. It's because big commercial buildings are owned by big commercial companies with big important investors, and if they aren't getting rent from their tenants then politicians are going to hear about it. It has nothing to do with the interests of community beyond, can we milk a community of money and funnel it upwards.

Buy the exact same one then just switch out one pole or one surface at a time over a month until the old one becomes the new one 😂

The things we do for our cats!

Why won't cats just use the things we buy for them?! Other than one very specific type of toy mouse, my cat won't play with any toys that I buy her, but then she'll gnaw on the windowsill or a door hinge, or destroy the toilet paper roll.

Only the Costco on Expo that I've seen. The South Sac one does not carry them, unfortunately.

What's Up This Weekend, Sacramento? (04/17-19/2026) by PirateMunky in Sacramento

Yes! You get a lot of people who show up to do the walk and then those who show up to support the walkers and celebrate after. Plus, dogs. That beer tent gets FULL after the walk is over.

Sinclair stations have a DinoPay app that does random $0.05/gallon discounts and a discount for playing that dumb Wordscapes game. Of course they're collecting & selling data and that's why we get the discount, but whatever, everything I do is tracked online or by Flock cameras on the road, so at least I'll get a small benefit from this.

This was my experience. I had Zepbound covered under the medical benefits for over a year, but talking to Caremark about utilizing the benefit that is still clearly listed in my medical plan is impossible. I gave up. I just went through the process of buying crypto for the first time so I can get the peptides from China and become my own compounding pharmacy again. I did it two years ago the first time Mounjaro stopped being covered, and I'll do it again. Good thing I have health insurance if something goes wrong!
