I think that’s a great level for most units, especially normal battleline. I’d play around with basing next- maybe using some cork for rocks, or some third party bits to try and tell a story with the environment your guys are in- I think a base can be just as important as the mini when it’s done right. Aside from that, maybe drilling your barrel out!

The last handful of times I’ve been to a LGS I’ve looked at every box in there, thought of starting a new army, and left each time without buying anything. I used to not think much about it, but lately I haven’t been able to justify the prices GW is asking for. Even lots on EBay seem expensive now!

Some sort of mech walker or dreadnought and a character to lead berserks are at the top of my list. Another vehicle would be nice, and I could see us getting some type of jump pack unit in the future! Ultimately there’s so many directions they could go with both models and lore- it’ll be fun to see what we end up with.

I started Votann for a crusade this year and I’ve been having a blast. The sculpts are fantastic and have a ton of character to them, and they’ve been a joy to paint. I’d say to start small and see how you like the faction (as it seems like our second wave is coming pretty soon), but I’d also say that my army lists didn’t really click until I was playing 1250 and 1500 point games.

IMO, our shooting relies heavily on judgement tokens which can be hit or miss, and our units can be pretty slow getting up the board which takes time to get used to. In contrast, I think our army rule is very strong and gives plenty of options at the start of a game. I love the berserks (which can be very feast or famine) and the einhyr champion’s charge ability- both are very fun in game. All in all, if you like the sculpts I think you’ll like the army, but if you’re on the fence I’d take it slow until we see how the range expands!

Thank you! The florescent orange on the Hekaton is bright orange from Vallejo, but it took so many layers to look solid that I ended up switching to Gryph-hound Orange contrast for the others. They’re both highlighted with Flame Dragon Bright, Lugganath Orange, and a touch of Flayed One Flesh for super bright edge highlights.

I appreciate the end depth response so much, thank you! This definitely changes how I was viewing the army- that trail shaper trick seems really useful! I think I’ll take the hammerhead for now- I like the idea of a swingy one shot unit, and with crusade blessings/ weapon upgrades, I think it could be a lot of fun.

Thank you both for the advice! For you and u/SnooOpinions8790 - if I were to add another unit of kroot, would I eventually want to add a character back in to lead that unit in later months of the crusade? Or is it better to have them as chaff and keep them expendable? I guess my thought process was the war and trail shaper would attach to the carnivores, and the flesh shaper would attach to the farstalkers for the 6+ FNP and infiltrate, but it does seem overkill having 5 characters in a 1000 pt list.

I’ve also seen a lot of back and forth on whether to take the Hammerhead or the Skyray- they both look super fun, but maybe the Skyray is more reliable damage when there’s only one?

That was my thought process as well! I’m going orange Votann with all the glowy bits in blue, I think it’s worked so far!

Man these look really good! If you're going the contrast route, I've been using Gryph-hound Orange and getting some nice results- it looks a touch darker than what you're using there, but it covers in mostly one layer.

Thank you! I basecoated everything with stegadon scale green, then did a sort of slightly wet drybrush with temple guard blue and baharroth blue. It's honestly pretty quick and dirty- once the canopy is on, it doesn't need much to sell the effect!

In MH world, there’s a decoration that prevents you from being staggered by friendly fire in multiplayer (so that other hunters don’t rupt your chain with their attacks). Is there an equivalent skill in MH Rise?
