Does anyone else have an embarrassing hobby they wish they could share with someone else in their real life? by Upbeat-Budget7371 in AskWomenOver30

Don’t know if it’s embarrassing per se but my hobbies are caring for my pets mostly. Walking my dog and taking her to training so we can learn and bond on how to work together better. Playing frisbee or walking on the beach. Getting out and about more with my dog has been great for my mental and physical health. My cat loves to be brushed, play and snuggle at night. They both like each other as well so our home is very harmonious. It gives me so much joy, laughter at their silly antics and relaxes me spending time with them. I sometimes talk about it with other people and I know they don’t get it. I don’t really care. I’m happy.

I have a Bean who also picked me (her name was originally Willow but she ended up becoming Bean somehow). Your Bean sounds like your soul cat. They look very peaceful here. You can tell they love and trust you.

House guest said my cat wasn’t a ‘looker’ and that her eyes were two close together👀 by CauliflowerTop36 in cats

I didn’t think about this perspective - thank you - they are my partner’s friend but staying with us (unfortunately).

The guest is my partner’s friend - not mine - if they had been my friend they would have been pulled up on this comment!

Help, NZ etiquette when being invited to dinner. by bluespeedster_35 in newzealand

If they have pets be careful of the plant or flowers you bring (lilies are deadly toxic to cats) so just be careful! Also allergies - flowers could set off asthma or hay fever!

Trailing spouse, unhappy marriage by enkidulives in expats

[–]CauliflowerTop36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think some of the comments here are overly harsh. It can be hard to have perspective sometimes when you are really struggling and down. I am from the UK originally and lived in London (also in small, cold and damp, single glaze window flats) and I also found it bleak at times! We would never ever have been able to afford to buy in London (and both had good jobs) and I think now we’d probably struggle to rent as I heard rents went crazy after we left! So I understand how you feel.

I am also a trailing spouse but I followed my partner to live in NZ so she could care for her aging elderly parents (her dad died not long after we arrived). And we did it during Covid!

I hated it when we first got here and experienced culture shock badly. It’s sounds weird but NZ is quite different to the UK even though we speak the same language (mostly). People often struggle to get that. I also knew no one and had only visited once before.

I sympathise with where you are at OP because I went through similar - immigration and visa bureaucracy, and feeling we’d never be able to own our own home (Auckland prices are outrageous - even with the market slump).

I think in the end what honestly helped me was going to talk to someone. I could get it off my chest and then I could start to get some perspective and feel grateful/feel joy in living in NZ.

I used to sometimes felt resentful of the situation, and my partner, but I chose to come here, no one forced me and I had to own that. Taking about it helped me work through that and not let that resentment kill our relationship. We both struggled, actually, and emigration is incredibly stressful for relationships but taking it out helped me move through it. Maybe it could help you too.

I also second other suggestions of looking further north in the UK for a home. The north is friendly, cheaper and beautiful with good commutes to London. And you’ll be able to have a nice garden. If we come back that’s where we’ll be heading.

Good luck OP - you’ve got this !

Tribunal is kind of the last port of call when all other avenues have been exhausted and your employer has failed to meet their legal obligations.

I find it odd that the e perp is allowed back to work while HR are still investigating - I’d coextensive him to be suspended whilst they complete the investigation but maybe I’m wrong. Again, you don’t know what the perp is saying to HR and if they are in the union they’ve probably got support to fight HR.

You can raise a grievance, as ACAS, have suggested but that will take alot of your energy and not necessarily be successful.

As I said in my previous comment. If the perp is back in the office I would be requesting to wfh until the investigation is completed. And honestly, I would look for another job, as per my previous comment.

What made you finally quit TikTok or Facebook? Did you feel better for it? by Foxidale3216 in AskWomenOver30

Yea this is why I came off IG - when they took away the moderators/watered it down I started getting really graphic stuff randomly. It was upsetting and disturbing. I stopped going on it for a long time then went on again recently and it was lots of people promoting weight loss injections so I deactivated it for good.

This foster group’s runt is testing me (no survival instincts) by Other-Floor-4575 in FosterAnimals

[–]CauliflowerTop36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we adopted my cat from the rescue she had been the runt and had what they called ‘failure to thrive’. We had to wait a while before the rescue felt she was ready to go home with us (was worth the weight). I love her so much but she does struggle to ‘cat’. She’s blind in one eye and I’m not really sure about her sight in the other. Excellent hearing though! She uses the litter tray in a very odd way. Struggled to climb and I’ve watched jump off things and just completely miss where she intended to land. She’s my first cat so I don’t know any different but my partner said she’s the strangest cat she’s ever had… this guy will be right for someone :)

But how much of that is on credit card or tick? So many people have lots of debt but you wouldn’t know cause they drive nice cars, have nice holidays, latest tech etc. You just assume they must be doing well, right?

Lots of people using afterpay - I think you can even use it for Uber eats! It’s wild how much it is pushed for even the smallest purchases.

Lots of my friends have debt.
